DH & I want to start planning our 2010 trip! We normally try to plan about 5 years; but, our last trip this past May was HOT, CROWDED AND RAINY!! We missed soooo much; which is unusal for me. I am usually able to plan everything we are interested in. On our Oct 2001 trip we were able to see and do EVERYTHING except the water parks which we were not interested in at that time. The weather was great and we realize it was probably slow due to 9/11 the month before.

So, we are currently looking for an off season time to kind of reflect the experience we had in 2001!

TIA!
:wave2:

First week in December, but don't stay at a value because the Pop Warner kids will be there. They don't affect the parks, but the values and some of the moderate resorts-their presence is noticeable.

Stay at the Wilderness Lodge. You'll get your Christmas fix like nothing you've ever seen. Just go home before Dec 6, that's when our whole family gets there :rotfl: and we hate crowds too...

I went to WDW in Sept of 2001. I have not experienced that low of crowds since--regardless of time of year. It was truly dead then. That being said, January (not on the holiday weekend or Marathon weekend) it is pretty slow but the weather can be iffy. Could be 75 or could be 45.

Our favorite time to go is early Dec. I love all the Christmas decorations, the weather is pretty mild, and crowds are lower. You also have less risk of attractions being closed for refurbs since it is right in between two very busy holidays at Disney - Thnanksgiving and Christmas. It seems that they do a lot of the refurbs in January after the busy Christmas and New Years crowds.

I agree the first week in December, or right after Thanksgiving weekend is perfect. Not too hot, not too cold, not too crowded, plus you get to see all the Christmas decorations, Osborne Lights, etc.
I think POP is a safe value choice - no Pop Warner kids there, but you could always call to confirm.

Thanks! that was one of the weeks we are considering; but, after we heard about Pop Warner, we were wondering about the week before (the last week of Nov after Thanksgiving)--Never thought about WL. I'll have to give them a search over. THANKS!:thumbsup2

I think January is a little soon! and the weather??? but than again I did consider Mardi Gras and decided against it because of the crowds for the dbl holiday MG/President's week.
Thank you!!:thumbsup2

THANK YOU! BOTH it sounds like alot of people think this particular week is a good week!:thumbsup2 I know POP Warner is suppose to be at CSR this year(2009). I wonder where they will be next year (2010)!
We are probably doing a value or mod resort --which we take the chance of running into the POP Warner crew it sounds like:confused3

If you rent points from a DVC member (not me, family has used all mine up) from the dis rent/trade board, you should be able to stay at Wilderness Lodge for about what you'd pay for a moderate.

You just have to start talking to the renters soon, because the window for 2010 will open up at the beginning of January for the people who have WL as their home resort, so you'd book it with them at the beginning of January.

If you wait until the 7 month window to book (that's when the other resorts have a shot at WL), you won't get in because the first and second weeks of dec are super-popular with us DVC'ers. My family knows the drill by now; you're in by the new year or you're left out in the cold for Christmas season in Disney .

Make sure you rent from somebody who's been on the boards for a while, somebody who has posts for a few years. Don't rent from people "earning their ears". Most people who own a DVC and rent out their extra points (I believe) are trustworthy, you just have to do your homework about it (read the stickys on that page).

You can save a *huge* amount of money off of rack rate, it just requires you put some effort into learning how renting is done. You might just end up like us, though, we rented a few times and then got the bug and bought :lmao:.

WOW! Thanks! for the info... I have heard other Dis'ers talk about renting, and passed it through the mind but that was it. So, I need to book in January and need to get the word out soon. Well, than we really need to get on the ball and decide when we are going:laughing:
I would love to buy into DVC just don't think that is viable for another 5 yrs or so... :(
DD21 in college & I'm sure a wedding in the next 3 yrs, DS17 in HS and on his way to post secondary education (I hope), and DS3 at home--he may get to enjoy something like being a DVC'er in the future:laughing:

again thank you for the info...

:thanks:
I hope so too! that is why I started now so when can hopefully figure it out!! by starting now I figure it gives me a few months to hear what people think that have been there around the different times of the year!!!

We usually go the ending of September\beginning of October. It isn't too too crowded, especially at night. We are planning our next trip for October 2010. I am from Louisiana also, hi neighbor.:thumbsup2

Our two favorite times are last week of September and mid-November. September is warmer and parks are empty. There may be a sprinkle of rain in the afternoon, but it has never stopped us. November is great because we usually see the last weekend of Food and Wine and/or first week of the holiday decorations. The parks are not crowded except for the F&W days at EPCOT.

:thanks: HoWdY neighbor!!!:thumbsup2
sep/oct does sound appealing--should be out of tropical danger by that time!

Yeh Louisiana!
there is a LA thread-- I will have to locate it and bump it!

:yay: for finding more LA neighbors--I have been enjoying making friends who also love Disney! :yay:

:thanks: I'm torn between the last week of sep or last wk of Nov. thanks for sharing...

Great! Since you narrowed it down to the last week of Sept. or Nov. All you need to do is view the park calender for that week and big the week that has the most magic hours.
When we went in the last week in Sept. 06 it did not rain. When we went in 07, it only rained(lightly) for about an hour, then the sun came back out.

Got another correction, sorry. I should watch what I am typing instead of trying to watch the news.:lmao:
"Pick the week that has the most extra magic hours".
