Planning first solo trip

Are there other single parents out there who've done solo trips without their kids? I've taken my son who's 6.5 to WDW several times, and we're going back again in June to take advantage of the 4/3 offer. I've also taken him to DL and on DCL twice. Honestly, I wasn't a huge Disney fan before he was born, but I'm a total Disney nut now. My mom offered to watch my son and let me have a solo trip and I'd like to take advantage of it. I've travelled alot on my own before he was born and several times since, but I was just wondering if I'd feel weird being at the parks without him. I'd really like to get an opportunity though to try all the rides and attractions in the parks that I never get a chance to when I'm with him since he's on the cautious side. When we went to DL, we went with another single mom friend and her son and we took some turns with one of us taking both kids and the other getting a chance to ride and it was nice. Would it feel too weird?

There's nothing like a solo trip to WDW to do what you want, when you want - ride the rides you never get to do, eat when you want, sleep when you want. And since you have a trip planned in June with your son, I say "GO FOR IT!!!"

Whenever I get lonely, I just make a call home!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm getting really excited about this. It will be a total luxury to be able to do WDW the way I'd like. Now I just need to figure out dates and flights. It almost feels illicit going to WDW without my son.

I have had the same experince just from the different end of the spectrum I too have always did WDW with my son , who is now 26, we started when he was 17 and we were hooked I took my first solo in March of last year and it was wonderful! I will not say that I didnt have my melancholy moments, because I did. I felt guilty for not having someone to share the fun with and so I ended up buying things for strangers children (with the parents permission of course) I just really felt guilty that FIRST solo trip enjoying the fun without my son. For me tho, it was about doing all the rides etc that I could not do with my son, but for hte exact oppositre reason he wont do the kiddie rides as he calls them. It was fun to ride the rides I had never experienced before, yes I still rode ToT 7 times that trip but I also did Winnie the Pooh, Its a Small World (heheh and actually liked it ...lol) and all the other rides I had never had a chance to ride, rode the people mover which I love, went up in Swiss Family Treehouse, rode the Jungle Cruise 3 times, did the Lion King..etc etc...stopped an dtook a million pictures without hearing him sigh in exasperation, sat down and people watched, watched the parades, ate only one time a day, and just relaxed and did Disney at MY pace... I loved it!!! There are still moments and dates I would never do solo, but I love the occassion to do WDW solo every once in a while and I am sure you will as well

I just booked a 4 day solo trip this afternoon. Like you, I'm a single mom to a 5 1/2 year old daughter. I've done 4 trips with her (the last one was in September), but never one for just myself. When we were there in September, there were two evenings I had DD go to the Cub's Den at the Wilderness Lodge so I could have some (much needed) time to myself. One night I went over to the Magic Kingdom for a couple hours, and the other night I went to Epcot. I really enjoyed both nights and didn't feel weird at all. I decided my next trip would be without DD so I could do more of the stuff I couldn't do with her.

I will say I'm not planning on telling DD where I am going. She'd probably never forgive me if she found out I was at Disney while she had to stay home with Grandma and Grandpa and go to school.

So go ahead and make your plans. You'll love it.

I already plan to tell my DS that I'm on a business trip. I did that before a couple of years ago when I went to Vegas on a girlfriend getaway. I know he'll enjoy having the sleepover with Grandma and Grandpa anyway. I'm getting really excited about this!! I just have to pick the dates now.

I'm taking that bet too since I'm married with 2 kids and in the middle of planning a 4 day solo trip. I'm so looking forward to doing what I want when I want and eating at a couple of places the rest of the family has no interest in.

My kids know where I'm going to and so far, don't have a problem with it but they are older - 9 and 13.

I am also planning my first on-site solo trip for mid-March. However, it's solo without friends or family, I don't have any children. Though, i usually bring a niece with me.

I made 3 dining reservations and the Segway tour so far! I just read a solo trip report from Quacktatty (I hope I got that right) and it was a good trip report!
