I am helping my friend plan her first trip to WDW. Her mother recently found out that her cancer has returned and the only treatment options are experimental so it doesn't look good for her. Her mom's final wish is to take her grandchildren to Disneyworld.

There will be a 4 year old boy and a 6 year old girl. I'm pretty up to date on the girl things but have no idea what special things I can set up for the little boy. Any thoughts or suggestions are most welcome!

Time is of the essence here as her mom started chemo this week so we are going to plan this trip for between treatments. They are hoping to go within the next couple of weeks.

Any suggestions or advice as to what I can set up for them in a hurry?

What a wonderful thing you are doing. I'm sure they will have a great time. You have started in the right place. I was lucky enough to stumble across the boards when planning our first trip and since then we have found tons of excellent info here.

As far as for a boy, what about the Pirates League, it sounds like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, but pirate themed (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/tours-and-experiences/). There is also a T-Rex restaurant at Downtown Disney that I would emagine any little boy would love.

I would also think that as long as you stay away from the week after Easter and go before school gets out, you shouldn't have too much trouble booking things.

I don't know if they have the Disney Visa, but right now they have a deal going on where kids eat (Quick Service) and play (park tickets) for free. It might be worth checking into signing up for it to get the discount. Of course there are a bunch of other discounts too, so I'm sure they can find one that fits their needs.

You are a sweet friend to help out!

No advice on the boy, but I would check out the DISabilities board. Gramma may be tired from the chemo and want a GAC (Guest Assistance Card) if she is eligible, and maybe rent a wheelchair or scooter. She may enjoy watching her grandchildren at characer meals. That would be a nice way she could see their interaction with the characters while she is comfortably sitting down, in air conditioning, out of the heat/sun, etc.

Hugs and prayers for your friends!

I'm very sorry to hear this news. I imagine that the grandmother might be tired from the chemo and not sure if her hair would've fallen off by the time of the trip. You might want to suggest a family photo session so the grand children will have memories of their Walt Disney World trip with their grandma. My husband and I recently hired a professional Disney photographer. The photo session was fun and the pictures are beautiful. Contact them to see what options they have for family photo session. Let them know about grandma's condition. I found the staff to be helpful and professional. More info at: http://www.disneyeventphotography.com/
All my best to the grandmother and hope she beats this!
