Two of us in my neighborhood are planning on doing a "How to plan a disney vacation" night in association with our local Community Association.

I was wondering if anyone else out there has done a presentation like this and if so if you'd have any overviews or presentation slides. Also any suggestions of do's and don'ts would be helpful.

As I go through the list of potential topics it looks more and more like the outline for a complete college course, not a one-night event, but hopefully I can get it pared down.

I did one for my English class.
I broke it down into:
Transportation, it included everything from flying vs driving, DME, and Disney internal buses and boats
Resorts, talked about each resort and the differences in the resort levels
Restaurants, talked about the difference between QS, TS, and signature, the DDP and the different levels, and ADR's and how and when to make them
Tickets, talked about the difference between hopper and non hopper, non-expiring tickets, and water parks and more tickets
Parks and more, gave a basic over-view of each park, DTD, Disney Quest, and the water parks
Parties, talked about the different parties like MNSSHP, MVMCP, Star Wars Weekends, and F&W
I think that was it. It was a very short presentation, only about 5 minutes.

I am very interested in the feedback you get on how to plan a class like this. I may have an opportunity to put on something similar. Such a good idea! Yay!

I haven't ever done this but what a GREAT idea! Good luck!:thumbsup2

That sounds like fun! :thumbsup2

I know if I was going to see a presentation I would like to see activities highlighted that all ages would enjoy as we are a 24 year old couple with no kids, we likely are not as interested in doing ALL of the same activities as a family with young children.

Good luck!

I used to do these twice a year through Adult Education at the local high school. Don't have the time anymore, but "class" was a lot of fun.

Be ready with websites, guidebooks, etc. Have a set presentation on the differences within the topics OP have mentioned, but what really makes for a good presentation is to gear it to audience in front of you.

I would poll each group at the start to see what kind of information they needed. Some nights it was mostly people in the planning stages, others would be mostly people already booked and looking for inside info before their trip. Some were going with large families and lots of kids, sometimes I'd get mostly couples or just adults. I'd ditch the parts of the presentation they didn't need to know, like resort selection if they were already booked, but I'd have that info handy if they wanted it for the next trip. I'd expand the session with more in depth info on the sections of the presentation they needed.

The universal item each person mentioned as great on their feedback surveys was "lots of handouts". So get ready with everything you can get: park maps, resort pamphlets and resort maps, restaurant and dining plan info, ticket info, schedule info, activity info, transportation info, tours info, printout lists of the best guidebooks and websites. If you have them from past trips, bring a KTTW card, a Fastpass ticket, a meal receipt from DDP. If you have newbies, they don't what these look like or how to use them. If you have more experienced Disney goers, present these with some inside tips I'm sure you've learned on these boards.

The goal is to make their planning easier and cut through the clutter of the mountains of information that is out there so they have what THEY need for THEIR trip. Above all, make it fun!
