We are planning a trip to DL for next September, but want to spend a few extra days seeing other parts of CA. My kids will be 7 and 5 at the time. People have mentioned going up to SF for a few days, but I feel like there is so much we could do and see in southern California. Any thoughts or advice would be great!!! Thanks!:goodvibes

Your kids will be a great age for Legoland. A trip to San Diego for a couple of days. There's SeaWorld, the zoo and Safari park all worth doing.
We did the tidepools and saw the seals at LaJolla yesterday. Way worth doing.
Also the Birch Aquarium at LaJolla is great and has several hands on things for kids to do.
There's so much to do and see it would take weeks.

Thanks for the ideas. Living in Central FL, we are close to many attractions. So I would really like to take them to see things they can't see here. The seals would be awesome. Any other "ocean/beach" ideas would be appreciated. Also, places on the beach to stay with small kids!

We are also planning a trip next year to So Cal. Because we want to see many of the attractions in the area, we are getting CityPasses. Our plan is 5 days near Disney (we will add a Disney day to the 3 that are included on the pass and spend 4 in the parks at DLR and one at Universal only because it is included in the pass) and then travel to San Diego and stay there for 5 days. Plan to go to the zoo and then Sea World (both included in the pass) and possibly add a trip to Legoland, as well as spend a couple days at the beach (La Jolla for the tide pools and seals for sure and maybe Mission Beach and Belmont Park). As for where to stay in San Diego, that is harder to figure out. So far looking into the Bay Club Hotel or Homewood Suites Liberty Station, but they aren't really "on the beach." I would love to stay at the Hotel del Coronado or the Hilton San Diego Resort, but it's all a matter of budget :upsidedow localwally.com is a great resource for San Diego info! Anyway, hope you find some if this useful and have a great trip!

A walk along the Embarcadero or Seaport Village is nice, especially at sunset. Mission Bay is always fun and if you stay late enough, you can watch the Seaworld fireworks from the beach! And, of course, I have to recommend seeing a Padres game! The ballpark is beautiful and the fans and ballpark staff are very friendly. Have a great time in San Diego!!!

If you go to see the seals in La Jolla be prepared to be accosted by people pushing both sides of the controversy surrounding the presence of the seals on the beach...
