Planning a trip for May 2010 - opinions?

Just wondering if anyone can give their opinion on traveling in May? We are desperate to avoid the crowds associated with spring break and school vacations, but need to take the trip before September 2010 when our twin 5 year olds will start Kindergarten. We also don't want to be there in the summer due to the heat. I would to hear from anyone who can help me decide when the best time is to go!

Thanks in advance!!

I have been in May and it's great! Although I wouldn't say the crowds are very light because many schools let out in May, nor is it cool. Regardless, neither are at their worst. We went the week before Memorial Day and didn't see the crowds really pick up until the Friday before, so not bad.

If you've got a pretty flexible schedule, you may want to ask around about the end of April. Spring breaks are over, Easter is early in the month, and school is still in session. You may save yourself a bit of heat and wait in shorter lines.

Have fun!!

We went this year the last week of April/First week of May and it wasn't too badly crowded or too hot, but I told DH then that that trip was the closest I was ever going to get to summer at Disney. It got up to 90 a few days and in the afternoon, the lines would get to be about 45 minutes for the biggest attractions. We also had a 5 year-old and we would get up in the morning, hit the park at RD and stay until lunch, go back to the room for a nap or swim (usually a nap) and then hit a different park in the evening, when it had cooled down. That is the best way to avoid the really crowded, hot times. We did have a great trip and probably never waited in line more than 20 minutes at most, but we planned our days pretty carefully using Tour Guide Mike. Having said that, we have been in January and February other times and I much prefer that time of year (I'm not a fan of the heat!!).

We've gone a few times in May and are going gain May 2010. It's pretty warm in May; I've not noticed much difference in weather between May and our summer visits. The crowds are less but I would not call them light, especially if WDW does another promotion like the 4/3 that they did this year.

I have been to WDW in April, May, July, Aug and Dec and besides Christmas, May is my absolute favorite time to go. I would go the beginning of May as some schools are out at the end of May and go before the holiday weekend in May. It can get warm high 80's to some low 90's. I think you will LOVE IT!!!
Have Fun!!!!:)

I agree w/the pp, early May is better. We were there the week before Memorial Day and it rained every day--which was a fluke, whatever, but the crowds were pretty heavy. It was hot, but we are used to going in Sept when it is very hot. I'll take heat over crowds any day. The EPCOT flower and garden displays were really amazing.

We are going next year in May....first time for me every going in Spring. Will be going May 12 - 17 so almost a week (and I think are flying vs. driving if we can get good airfare).

I have heard that the heat isn't that bad during the middle of the month and the crowds aren't bad since its before school lets out.

Good Luck!
