planning a trip before the star wars land madness!

my husband's family is in the preliminary stages of planning an extended multi-family trip to WDW before the youngest in the families turn 3 and are still free. Because we are a group made up of many students and teachers, the best time for us to go is summer. We'd ideally go August of 2019, (2018 is too soon) but if there is a good chance Star Wars land will be open, we may rethink plans. None of us are die hard fans, and we're looking to have a pretty "normal" disney experience that does not include the opening of a major land. Since I'm the "disney person" of the group, I can steer this trip however I want. If there's a good chance of Star Wars land being open by August of 2019, I will steer us towards and earlier date.

I know the official word from Disney is just "2019" at this point, but what do we really think that means?? I know - we're all just speculating.

I think the general consensus is that it will open late 2019, I'm expecting around Thanksgiving. DL will open earlier than WDW

As mentioned, it's is expected that Galaxy's Edge (brought to us by Samsung perhaps? ) will open late in 2019.

Disneyland construction is about 6 months further along than WDW, and it is expected to open there late spring - I'm thinking they're shooting for Memorial Day weekend, which has significance in the world of Star Wars (opening weekend for the original movie). That would put the opening at WDW somewhere around Thanksgiving.

It's highly unlikely that it will be open by August of 2019.

Thanks guys. This is the answer I was hoping for. I know I'm in the minority ;-)

I'm very excited for Star Wars land, but I'll wait a few years to visit until the madness dies down a bit. My sisters and I waited a full year to do the first Harry Potter world, and we are huge fans of that!
