i've done lots of distance driving before, but the destination was always the goal, not the journey.

for people who have planned a long distance roadtrip before, do you have some suggestions on how to start planning? we have a list of places we would like to go, but i don't know how much time to leave. i frequently drive 6-7 hours at a stretch, and have done more before, but i don't know how long we should plan if we want to make stops to look at things that catch our eye a long the way.

btw, we don't have kids. we're planning on doing this sometime in the summer. it will be just me and dh in my convertible. :)

Back before I had internet access, I used to buy the Mobil Travel Guide for the area of the country I was going to visit. It lists lots of good information about places of interest you might want to stop at.

Your roadtrip sounds like fun!

Before kids we would do this every year. We started with a big map of the area we wanted to hit, got out the thumbtacks, and looked for the best (not necessarily quickest routes.) Somedays I actually yearn for the whole empty-nest thing, to do it again.

Have a really nice trip.
