Planning a book themed wedding...UPDATE with PICTURES 45 & 46

For the menu you could label each course as Introduction or Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc..

I don't like the idea of the bouquet coming out of a book - that sounds hard to carry.

I saw this when I was planning my own wedding and I thought it was such a cool idea for table numbers. There is a step-by-step guide on this page to re-creating it: http://www.oncewed.com/17158/wedding-blog/diy-wedding/diy-vintage-book-table-numbers/

No WAY should you use your own books for the centerpieces. I guarantee that some will be taken by guests. I like the idea, but I'd head to a used book store and buy some cheapees to use.

My sister just got married two weeks ago. She used fishbowls (with llive fish) in it. they had plans for the fish and the bowls for after the wedding, but several bowls disappeared during the night (I even saw someone dumping the water and the poor goldfish over a railing, and I said that my sister, the bride, had plans for them and was told "Ooops" and the lady walked away with the bowl anyway).

These were friends and family.

Don't nuse your own books. I am sure the hotel's "free" centerpieces disappear all the time.

Precisely. Unless you are willing to lose something, never, ever use it as a centerpiece or place it where others can get a hold of it. As stated, even if they don't get taken, they could very well end up damaged.
Also, even if you tell people they're your's, it doesn't mean they still won't get taken. I've been at several weddings where it was well known (some even stated in a note at each table) that the centerpieces were to be used later, and they still ended up disappearing.
I would definitely go the used book route for the centerpieces.

I don't know how well read your family and friends are, but if you use the table by authors idea, definitely have the names easily readable on the tables. In my own family, while most have seen the Lord of the Rings or the Harry Potter films, quite a few couldn't even tell you who worte the books or didn't even know they were based on books. So unless you know at least 80+ percent of your guests are avid readers, make sure to have the names displayed somehow.

I love your ideas, though. :goodvibes

Our wedding cake was in the shape of a large open book with a castle on it, saying a fairytale marriage. It was pretty cool.

I love this idea!

Just wanted to say we recently went to the wedding of a colleague of my DH. This colleague is a math professor. The centerpieces were stacks of math books and textbooks. Maybe because it was a smaller wedding, or maybe because it was close family and friends or maybe because it was "math" books, but no one took any. The family boxed them up at the end and and took them home.

It was because they were math books! :rotfl: Now if they had put out anything good to read, that would have been a different story! (My DH is a mathematical biologist, so I have no problem making fun of math books. The amount of them I have around the house is practically indecent!)

I will just say I love your theme!
I don't know what your plans are as far as music but the first thing that popped into my head was the lyrics to the song "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield.

Don't use your own books...please, they will get damaged. :( Go to a Thrift Store or see if your local library will be doing a book sale and use those instead. Must safer! :)

I love this idea tho!! How fun and unique!! :) I don't really have any other ideas but I love your colors and your ideas, especially the bride & groom reading the book. :)

UPDATE:

The wedding is tomorrow! Eek! There will be little mini books hanging from the bouquet. The entrance arch is going to be two book cases which are also serving as the memory shelf. The centerpeices are books that have a hole drilled into them that a bud vase can nest in. There will be a hot chocolate bar and a "reading nook" by the fireplace mantle. The cake is going to be different books: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Lord of hte Rings, Huckleberry Finn, and A Christmas Carol. The top tier is an open book and his cousin made bride nad groom toppers that are lying down "reading" the book. The inivtations looked like a book complete with copyright page and the favors are bookmarks. I will try to post pictures when I can.

For some Disney related, my mom recreated the rose in the glass from Beauty and the Beast, and our first dance is to Promise from IllumiNations.

Early Congtrats for you day tomorrow...
