Planning 1st trip to Disneyland

Hello,

I learned of this board through a family we met while in Disney World in August. Seems to be lots of great info here.
We have traveled to Disney World very often, just about every year, but have never made the trip to Disneyland.
We're thinking about visiting for the 1st time during the summer of 2013. I'm wondering how many days we should plan to spend at the Disney parks and how many days we should schedule other activities. Beach, other parks, etc. (We would be in California for a week)
Disney would be the primary reason for the trip. I'm thinking 4 days in Disney but wanted to get some input from those who have already been there.
