Planning a first visit to DL/DCA for my family (I've been once before, but alone) that includes 2 DD's (12 &5), DH, and my parents (in their 70's, but very active). Here's the plan so far, let me know if I need to change anything.

8/11: Arrive at LAX at 12:25pm. Transportation via Super Shuttle to Anaheim. We are staying at the Worldmark Anaheim, right near Garden Walk. Plan is to have dinner at Fire & Ice, then maybe a couple of hours at DL.

8/12: Renting a car for two days to visit the Reagan Library and Universal. The Disney CM said to visit the Library on Sunday and Universal Monday, but after reading about Monday traffic in LA I'm thinking I might switch this around. Thoughts?

8/13: Library or Universal

8/14: DL/DCA

8/15: DL/DCA

8/16: Taking the Amtrack to San Diego to visit the zoo

8/17: DL/DCA

8/18: Going home :(

I know the drive to the library is about an hour to 1.5 hrs., and to Universal is about an hour as well. The train ride is about 2 hrs. Anything I'm missing?

Another question: Amtrak did have the San Diego Zoo listed as a "station" on their web site (they included a transfer to the zoo) and it's no longer there. How far away is the zoo from the station, and how do I get there?

The train station is about 3 to 3.5 miles from the Zoo. I would get on the trolley, which you can pick up about a 1/2 block from the train station, get off at City College, then take the #7 bus to the Zoo.

One thing to keep in mind is at this time of year the Zoo is open until 9, so make sure you leave enough time to make it back to the train station to get the last train north.

If you need to, you can also take a taxi, which is about $15 or so each way.

Thank you!!! We've dropped Universal from the plan, trying to focus more on DL :)

We live about 25 minutes from the Reagan Library. You can make it in an hour and a half if you hit no traffic, which is pretty unlikely in LA. I would definitely do it on Sunday to miss the weekday traffic. I use the sigalert app to get around traffic, there are many different ways to get there. Good Luck and have fun!!
