Planet Hollywood: The restaurant nobody talks about...

My mom and I are planning on eating there the afternoon before we go to MNSSHP. I used to love going to the one in Niagra Falls when I was younger so I hope I still love it.

I've been wondering the same thing, no one talks about it. As far as we are concerned it's the best place to eat TS at disney!!! We only went there one night reluctantly because we were in DTD and couldn't find anywhere that took the dinning plan, everything was CS. It was too loud and we REALLY didn't want to go, now it's a must every time, the best food and the chicken crunch apps are the best! We always just walk in, never needed ADR's.

I'd be interested to know where in WDW you ate because we've had some wonderful TS experiences that were better than chain food. Also, there are a few other DDP options for TS in DTD. The are Cap 'n Jack's Restaurant, Wolfgang Puck's Cafe and Raglan Road Irish Pub.

Same here, we ate there about 6 months ago and you couldn't pay me to go back. The food was horrible. I am sorry but if this is what people consider good, then I will never give any thoughts to reviews here. My kids hated it and they know their food, we take them everywhere with us. I would say that maybe we got a bad night, but we have eaten there before and it was fair at best. I just don't get it.

I've never been to the one in DtD but have eaten at 2 other PHs several years ago. The theme chain restaurants (PH, Rainforest, All-Star Cafe (now defunct)) are not our thing. They all seemed to be cut from the same cloth and I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at one again. But we do enjoy visiting Hard Rock Cafe when we are in Gatlinburg. There aren't near the restaurant choices there though, LOL. I can't imagine giving up another restaurant in WDW to eat at PH.

There aren't near as many PHs as there used to be. There is not even one in Hollywood anymore. I imagine that the one at DtD is their most successful outlet.

I just looked at PHs wiki (I don't have much to do today, LOL!) and reading that I'm amazed they are still in business! The corp. has declared bankruptcy twice and closed over 100 restaurants worldwide. There are currently 20 PHs around the world. Some of the stars that partnered to start PH have dissolved their relationship with the company.

I'm sorry but I have to say that PH was the worst meal I have ever eaten when visiting America. The food was bland and tepid. The service was about the same.

It was truly awful and I will never waste money there again.

That said the memorabilia was cool!!

ETA:- Our meal was a free meal so it is really saying something if I would not eat there for free ever again.

PH is our traditional first day dinner. We enjoy it, the food isn't aweful, and I've definately have better. But, it is still a tradition. Never had ADRs for them, but do this year. Don't want to wait 1/2 to eat this year.

That's why I decide not to check reviews for restaurants :goodvibes
We love planet hollywood, we ate at Coral Reef, Tuskerhouse (ick), 50's prime time cafe, mama melrose (double ick, chicken shouldn't be rubbery I think!), Crystal Palace (not too bad), I can't remember all of them, we've been to Disney twice with the dinning plan and never eaten anyplace twice other than planet hollywood, oh and Coral Reef just for the big tanks!!! All the food was mediocre everywhere, we kept trying new places but no luck for us. That's why we're happy to downgrade to the QS meals:thumbsup2 I know most don't agree, but that's just what works for us.

We also have a tradition of dinner at PH on our first night! After that we walk around DTD. This year we'll also be going to the Princess Di exhibit, and possibly the Characters in Flight balloon ride. This year and last we had an ADR for PH booked through Disney Dining. We usually get there between 4-5, so it's usually not crowded when we get there. It's another story entirely when we're ready to leave. :rotfl:

WE LOVE PLANET HOLLYWOOD! But that's our taste. Not necessary for others to bash our taste just because it isn't theirs. I wouldn't ever eat in some of the place at WDW because I don't think I'd find anything on the menu to eat. Doesn't mean I'm going to make others feel bad because it's what they like. I believe there are plenty of places to eat that suit a wide variety of palates.

I'll be at PH one week from today for my 4:30 ADR and I'll be happy because I'm back home again. ;)

I didn't expect to like Planet Hollywood. It was kind of a last minute, we're standing here, have a voucher, and they can get us in w/o a ressie, so let's just eat here kind of decision. But I consider it to be one of the best meals we had all week while on vacation. HUGE portions. If you want to split meals, go there.

I think people don't like PH because it's not Disney-esque enough. I bet if they devoted the decor to Disney movies, it would be a hit. I mean it's in Disney for goodness sake. I really don't want to eat my dinner next to the Chuckie doll.
