Plane Worries?

This isn’t a worry for me. I’m well into flying myself to the point where I actually have a lot of Biscoff cookies stashed and ready for the snowstorm. My concern is that my brothers and everyone else in my party might use the recent news as an excuse to strike down a Disney run.

Fox news article about the first month of presidency is a little misleading. 18 people were killed in the first month of presidency 4 years ago. About 90 people so far this year.

Can't brag you fired so many people in the FAA, claim the skies have never been safer, then blame someone else when a crash happens on your watch. Maybe just stop talking.

That being said, I never had an issue with flying, but the new presidents and presidents people do have me concerned that they are capable of gettting things under control and making correct decisions, not retalitory ones that sound good on the news and social media
Check out the Delta CEO interview with Gayle King. Here's a little snippet of it.

"I've been in close communication with the Secretary of Transportation. I understand that the cuts at this time are something that are raising questions, but the reality is there's over 50,000 people that work at the FAA. And the cuts, I understand, were 300 people, and they were in non-critical safety functions," .

I'm curious, why?

At this point, I'm thinking "human error" for that one, which will be with us forever.

Toronto, which COULD be a mechanical failure concerns me more. A part can give out before it's "due".

That being said, I'm flying for work on Sunday and won't hesitate a second to get on either plane.
I probably should have prefaced my statement with “concern about FAA / ATC”.

Each accident has its own obliterate cause for concern, but for the general traveling public, the Potomac is of greatest concern.
The Toronto mishap could prove to be a problem with pilot competence, but obviously nothing to do with the US ATC system.

I can understand that. Thanks for the explanation!

My concern as someone who regularly flies out of DCA is now they have stopped all air traffic for an hour when the president gets in his helicopter on the WH lawn. Happened a few weeks ago - there was a complete groundstop for 'security reasons', and planes are left circling, then have to be diverted to IAD, BWI, or even Richmond when they get low on fuel. The article didn't say how the people left at the wrong airport were compensated for the extra expense, missing connections, etc. DD was flying home that night (from Wichita of all places) and was delayed several hours.

*IF* this a new thing, it will likely be accounted for in the future.
The airlines can put on a bit more fuel, or perhaps (even better) is the White House communicates better movement earlier so airlines can delay.

With all the issues with planes these days does anyone have any plane worries? I was thinking of flying but the older kids are scared to due to all the plane issues.
I'm worried on every flight whether or not I'll have enough leg room 😄 But all kidding aside not very worried about planes compared to other various forms of transportation.

Was on a Delta flight using Delta wifi when my FB broke the news of the latest Delta crash landing. I am on another Delta flight and a Southwest flight next week. YOLO

Probably a Skywest since it was smaller? Ill been one of those in April
No, it was Endeavor Air. Delta uses four or five different small regional carriers that operate as Delta Connection. Same as United does as United Express and American does as American Eagle. Skywest operates for all three of them. Endeavor is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Airlines that is based out of MSP that does runs primarily in the eastern half of the country.

I’ll admit I’m definitely more nervous than in the past but that’s because we fly from Hawaii and flying over the ocean makes me very nervous. This is made worse by the fact we exclusively fly Alaska and the door plug incident was in a plane that would routinely fly the route we take from HI to the mainland. I always am nervous about something happening where a plane over land could make an emergency landing but we’re stuck 🤪 So even with the nerves, I still fly and tell myself the odds of something happening are pretty marginal.

Wow, some of you will believe anything Fox News and MAGA say! The claim that DEI programs in manufacturing lead to less-than-best-qualified individuals playing a significant role in development and construction is entirely misleading. DEI initiatives are designed to level the playing field, not to lower standards. Until Trump and his inexperienced cronies came into office, no planes fell from the skies.
OP solicited input on concerns over flying. I listed +/- 10 discrete concerns. Down at #7 was improperly executed DEI. I fully support merit-based promotion and associated inclusivity; what Boeing, which had deteriorated quality control, pivoted to, from ‘traditional DEI’ (social justice vestige from the 1960s) in c. 2023. Seems that multiple courts of law, as well as many companies, have realigned to such a practice (see, https://www.skadden.com/insights/pu...-insights/corporate-dei-polices-face-scrutiny).

If you had actually digested my post, you would have noticed that I also have multiple concerns over the most recent gutting of federal agencies and potential impact on air travel.

In direct response to your challenge, yes, I would love to see American greatness. Doesn’t mean that I drink the MAGA kool-aid. Doesn’t mean that I voted for the current president (I did not).

My experience with the self-righteous is that facts and well-rounded analysis don’t mean much. So, to everybody, I hope that we all have a great day and a safe, bright future!

Maybe. Just happened again to my neighbor on Friday Feb 28. President likes to go to Florida on Fridays. I changed my March return home from a Friday to a Saturday...

I see my post bothered you enough that you felt the need to report it. Not surprising. I appreciate your clarification on your stance regarding DEI and merit-based promotion. However, the issue with framing DEI as “improperly executed” or implying that it inherently reduces quality is that it often misrepresents its actual purpose and impact. The goal of DEI is not to undermine qualifications but to ensure that opportunities are accessible to a broader and historically underrepresented talent pool.

Regarding Boeing and corporate shifts in DEI, it’s worth critically evaluating whether changes are truly about improving quality or if they stem from external pressures, legal challenges, or political influences. A well-implemented DEI strategy doesn’t mean sacrificing excellence—it means expanding access to talent while maintaining rigorous standards.
