You heard it here first. The land that river Country is on is going to be used for a new DVC property. Construction will begin shortly.

Lone Star, judging from your emoticons I take it you don't believe me. My post is for real, I heard it from a reliable source.

I believe it......kinda. ;)I did see evidence of a wetlands delineation around there when we visited a few weeks ago. :cool1:

I heard the Marlins are building a stadium there.

I can't dispute what you're saying Todd, but, I'm not sure what sort of DVC facility they could build on such a small tract of land. Unless - they expand to the NW of R.C. and use some undeveloped property between R.C. & W.L. - the tract on the beach side of the private road to W.L..:confused3 If so, I wonder what other property will be sacrificed to be declared as "wetlands"?

I've just had my first cup of coffee...so my brain is waking up! I seem to remember that long before Wilderness Lodge was built, Disney had plans to build a resort on the other side of R.C. I vaguely remember something about a resort - The Cypress Point Lodge. It was to be a combination hotel & cabins resort with something like 400-500 rooms and I can't remember how many cabins. I believe I saw an architect's conception of this resort in one of the annual stock reports. I wonder if those plans have been pulled out of dry storage after being hidden for almost 30 years? Damn! Why do I throw that stuff away??

ETA: I googled Cypress Point Lodge, and here's what I found. I KNEW I didn't make this up!!

I have been betting that it will be a waterfront expansion of VWL.

The only problem I see with this project is roadways into the project. Although the road between FW and WL is pretty good size it's not enough to handle resort trafiic IMO. Unless they bring in a road from where the old runway is it will overload that road. Not saying it's not gonna happen but I would believe there are plans for DVC campsites before another hotel was coming. There's too much property in other places to ruin wetlands over there but we've seen other things we thought we'd never see.

I've got big news! Bobby was on his way home from Jim's house last night, and he called me on his cell to report that Disney has "re-themed" the Fort Wilderness Junction idea from the early 90's into a DVC resort. It will still encompass an Old West Town theme, complete with saloon, wild west show, new restaurants, and a recreated FWRR. Instead of a 600 room inn however, DVC villas will be scattered amongst the town and along the lakeshore on the land between the Fort and the Lodge.

It all sounded fantastic to me, until I realized that Jim likely slipped some strange mushrooms into Bobby's kungaloosh.

I have to think Disney has a long term plan to capture more of the camping/RV enthusiasts market. From what I have read, camping and RVing is still a growing activity in its many forms from luxury rigs to the most basic tent campers. Expanding the Fort or building another campground with different theming certainly makes sense as a way to attract large groups or others with a tight budget who want to stay inside WDW in a more affordable way. Camping fits that bill.

I would be first in line to buy DVC campsites!

But like most here, I will believe it when I see it (or it is announced or leaked from a very reliable source).

Just what we need, another resort to share our watercraft transportation with. I can see it now, a sign at FW Landing saying "Boat Transportation to the Magic Kingdom will run approximately every 40 minutes", as you stand on the dock in the pouring rain beneath the two umbrellas they have there.

If they do build it, I hope Disney has enough common sense to redesign & reroute roads and move the main bus transportaion back to the Settlement Depot, so that all three resorts will be on basically the same road.

OK, so I am being cynical, but probably realistic.

If it is for a DVC for campsites and not just another hotel, well then I will be first in line.

Am I wrong on this, but didnt some of the areas around the beach have been designated Wilderness Areas. An example was that they couldnt update Loops 100-300 to preminum because of construction restraints. I guess all the Deer that live between WL and FW will just have to move..
