right now my plan b in cancelling this April3-9 trip is pushing it to end of Sept. Waiting online now... of course I am really screwed cause our UY is June and 45 of my points will be lost unless I get some serious pixie dust when rebooking. This is heartbreaking.
LOL, indeed Plan B is in the rear view mirror as we look at C and D.
We suspected that 2020 would be a year of cancelled plans.
Our Christmas plans were cancelled at the last minute. (Non-DVC timeshare with friends. We were able to recover the points, phew.)
Our New Years plans were cancelled at the last minute. (Non-DVC timeshare with family. We lost half of those points.)
My January B'day was compromised by my husband's work schedule. Yes, I went anyway and he met me mid-trip but that made things awkward and uncomfortable.
Our February anniversary was cancelled by husband's work schedule. (By this time, we are simply laughing. Of course it was cancelled. It only happens once every four years and his work was well aware of our plans ... so naturally they book a large project over that weekend. Of course. Please understand, we love his job. The situation has become funny to us?)
My husband suggested a long weekend this month using our other timeshare for "somewhere, anywhere" using the points from the cancelled New Years trip. When this first came up, the other timeshare had plenty of last-minute availability across the drive-to destinations. Cool! But by the time I went to book something, they'd shutdown reservations and are clearing the resorts for C-19. Right, of course.
We are booked for WDW in early May calling it our "Plan B Anniversary trip." This is using flights rescheduled from the cancelled New Years trip, it is our first time staying in the DVC-side of Beach Club, and we have reservations for the DVC MM event at Epcot. We are so looking forward to the trip ... but it isn't looking good. We are beginning to watch the calendar for "last day to cancel" both due to possibly extended C-19 closures and hubby's work which, last week, scheduled a two-week project right over our WDW dates which may or may not be held due to travel restrictions. Right, of course. We wait and see.
FWIW, we should have been boarding the NCL Jade today for a Suez Canal transition with an awesome itinerary. We'd booked this trip two years ago ... but something felt queasy last fall so we rebooked that trip for the RCCL Jewel with similar itinerary in reverse direction. So glad we escalated that trip and fit it into 2019!!
Curious for the wait and see people (which I'm not) are you concerned that resorts will be booked up - atleast on the weekend if you are still looking to travel in the fall? I cancelled a May BCV 2bd and studio. C-19 caused two family members to be layed off and even if WDW is open taking vacation is not a viable answer for them. I tried to figure out a time but with 5 different work situations I threw in the towel. I had banked points into 2020 that I wanted to use so I was able to find a 1bd RRR for DH and I in the timeframe before our AP's run out.
This year I had no Disney vacation planned what so ever. That has really only happened a couple times in the past 15 or so years. But I do have one planned for next year, but certainly realizing that might not happen as well. The virus and the economy both are a threat to that now. May have to put it off till later. May not.

We are "wait and see" for the May trip (BCV). We have an Oct stay booked at SSR; we'd hoped to move that to a different resort but things seem pretty blocked for our dates across the system.
Our UY is Oct; last banking date is end of May. If we cancel the May trip (likely?) we will bank those points and then ask if our current Oct reservation can be rebooked using the banked points rather than current points. Keeping fingers crossed for a favorable outcome.
If the Oct reservation cannot be rebooked against older points ... we might cancel the Oct trip and splurge on some related network use (DCL, ABD or Concierge Collection?) just to flush the points without losing them. Or, perhaps, if one is available, we'll book a CCV Cabin again. We did that once and are eager to enjoy it again!

I already rescheduled the March trip for August, If the May trip needs to go, I will reschedule for July, unless they are allowing borrowed points to go back and then we will rebook for next winter,
My June trip is on a contract that I am selling., If the current buyer doesn’t back out, or if they do and I have a new buyers, there is a chance they will end up with extra points.

If you cancel the May trip and are still within your routine banking window, you can go into the October reservation, click Modify, then work through all the screens without changing anything, and at the end you'll find the reservation has taken the banked points first and current points (if needed) last. I've seen @Sandisw recommend this many times to various DVC owners, with confirmations from them that it works. So no need to call MS and ask them to do it.
