Okay, by the looks of everyone's countdown clocks, I think we need to get on the ball and get our reservations made. We are planning to go end of May/first of June. Should I start panicing yet?

I need opinions on resorts. I have been checking thinngs out on the computer and I am reading Unofficial Guide and I like what I am seeing and reading about Caribbean Beach Resort. From all you experts--How is this place?

Thanks In Advance!!!!

We love the CBR but check out safetymom's site as she is the resident expert. So much of where you should stay depends on what you are looking for in resort. Do you want something tropical? Lots of kids running around? More exotic? Disney themed? Once you have a good idea of what it is you want you can make your decision. WDW has so many beautiful resorts that you really can't go wrong. It wouldn't hurt to get yourself lined up with reservations asap if you have a specific time you plan to go. Then keep your eye on the boards to see when the discounts are released. If you are lucky, and lots of folks are, you can rebook your room for a cheaper rate.

Thanks, franw!!! I just read some of safetymom's thread and checked out some of her pictures!!!! This is where I want to stay. I have pretty much made up MY mind. I guess I should check with my dh, 2dd and 2ds and my wonderful in-laws. Hey, I could go by myself. No, no, it would be so much better with everyone else.

My in-laws will be returning from a trip the first of October and I told dh that we need to decide and get reservations made.

How would I know, after I make reservations, that there is a discount? Will someone tell me(travel agent) or will I just have to keep my eyes open? I really want this to be an awesome trip for everyone and I want to get things done asap!!!

Thanks so much for your advice!!! Will keep checking on the forum, so much info, I am trying to take it all in!!!

Thanks again!!!!

Hi Janet,

Thanks for reading the Unofficial Guide. I'd suggest visiting www.MouseSavers.com to see if there are any discounts available for your visit. Alternatively, let us know when you're going and I'm sure someone here will know.

Sincerely,

Len Testa

Thanks, lentesta! We are planning to go the last weekend in May/first week of June. There will definitely be 6 of us, possibly 8. I did check out mousesavers and plan to check there often. When do discouts come up for next year? Totally new at this and I know I will need tons of help. Would really like to get reservations made soon!

I have highlighted tons of things in the Unofficial Guide and plan to read and re-read and re-re-read it!

Thanks for responding!

Just keep checking both mousesavers.com and this board. There is always a flurry of activity on the boards when new rates are released. You might consider getting one annual pass for one of you and you would then be qualified to get any AP rates that are released. You don't have to buy the pass until right before the trip. Sometimes the Disney Visa also offers special deals so you might give some thought to getting one. Also, when you make your reservation make sure they take your e-mail address so that you are in the mix for a possible e-mail special offer (not everyone gets one). We will be staying at the CBR in November for about the 15th time. Our first four days will be at the BWI. I gave everyone the option of trying to get a discount to stay at the BWI the entire time but we all agreed that it had to be a CBR trip.

You will love the tropical feeling there. We have seen some unbelievable sunsets over the lake. The grounds are spacious and we love to walk all over the place. There is a fun outdoor bar called the Banana Cabana and it is great fun to sit out there at night. While it is almost always sold out you don't feel like there are people everywhere. The rooms are actually quieter than some of the expensive resorts. We prefer the second floor, garden or water view. Make sure you let everyone know how your trip turns out. I'm sure you'll have a ball.

Thanks, franw! What useful info! I am trying to get my dh on the ball with all of this. He is more of the go-with-the-flow, let's-wait-and-see-what-happens kind of guy! I told him this trip MUST be planned! Tickets and reservations must be made!!!! I guess this is why we go great together, I get wound up and he is very laid back!

Tell me where else you have stayed. Have you stayed at any of the value resorts? Music, Sports....? Curious about those too!
I think the CBR sound truly wonderful!

And I will most definitely keep my eyes posted for the discounts. Do you recommend ordering over the internet or with a travel agent? My biggest concern is getting a good deal!!!

Thanks again for your help!!!

I have never stayed at a value although I am hearing some good things about the Pop Century which is due to open in December, I believe. I think if you search back through the threads under resorts you will find some info by someone who got to tour the Pop Century a couple weeks ago. He sounded very excited about it. We have stayed at the CBR, Poly, BWI, AKL, Disney Institute Treehouses, and the old Disney Inn (now Shades of Green). Our all time favorite is the CBR. Sounds like you have a husband like I do who is more inclined to want to wait til a week before and then get exactly what he wants at a greatly reduced price. We, on the other hand, know it doesn't work that way. You have nothing to lose by making some reservations (except you have to pay for the first night's stay on each room) but you can always cancel or transfer that deposit if something better comes your way. Once you have made your reservation you can just keep your eye open for discounts. I know there is an archive that gives historical information about when most discounts were offered. Things seem to have changed a bit though so don't count on the discounts coming down like they used to. The discounts go quick so take a minute each day to quickly look over the day's postings and any updates mousesavers may have. Mousesavers.com also will note that "rumors have it" that a discount is about to come down. It is actually great fun to follow the boards and it gets you excited for the upcoming trip. Just book what you can actually afford just in case something doesn't come your way in the form of a discount. That way you won't be disappointed. Lots of folks book what is affordable and if a great deal happens to work out for them they either save a bunch of money or they upgrade to a nicer resort. Don't get caught up in the griping that goes on about discounts not coming soon enough as it really does take away from the fun, at least for me it does. Enjoy your planning and get that family of yours to give you some dates you can work with.

Thanks, franw! After checking out the prices passes and resorts, I am getting overwhelmed. There is 6 of us and my in-laws will be going too. We can afford the CBR, but gosh, that sure is a lot of money. As long as I have a place to put my head at night, and the kids have a pool....know what I mean. I feel like I have checked out the CBR pretty good, I guess I should check out the other, value resorts now. I am a big planner and it will make me a nervous wreck to wait and wait. My in-laws are leaving for the New Hampshire this weekend, I think we need to have a major chat session with them when they return. We pretty much have out dates picked. Just a matter of sitting everyone down and talking about it!!! I am going to check out the post about the Pop Century Resort and then mousesavers. Thanks so much you are such a big help!!!!

"Talk" to you soon!!!!

eeccmom - I wanted to get back to you on your last post. You should not only check out the values if you are worried about how much you will be spending but there are some off property places to stay that you can get some really good deals at. There are condos for rent nearby. Lots of nearby hotels also. It would enable you to go, check out the Disney resorts while you are there and start planning your next trip. Definitely consider one of the values for a more relaxed vacation though. I have heard that rooms can be discounted all the way down to $49 or $59 at times. You would need two rooms for sure as you can only have 4 in a room. Also, you don't have to go into the parks every day. There's lots to do at the resorts and Downtown Disney. You could take in a water park or Disney Quest one day and hang out by the pool or tour the resorts, rent a boat for a couple of hours and ride the lagoon around WDW. You could walk around the Boardwalk area and have an ice cream at Beaches and Cream. That would cut down considerably on how many days of passes all six of you would need. There are lots of places to eat reasonably around the resorts and parks as well. Lots of folks bring or buy a cooler and get snacks and things at the grocery store to cut costs as well. If you aren't driving down and you stay on Disney property you won't need a car while you are there. Check out the forum on staying at WDW and saving money. It is on the list of forums. I am sure you will get lots of help from folks who don't want to overspend. Don't give up on your trip but cut out some of the frills. Even shortening it one day saves a bundle. I truly think that if you stayed on property at a value it would provide you with enough access to fun that you wouldn't need to spend more than you can afford. Don't hesitate to ask for advice or help if you need it. Follow your dream.

Hey franw!!! My dh definitely wants to stay at one of the Disney resorts. We plan on driving, but he feels it would be better staying in the park just for the tranportation and the wonderful atmosphere!! With 4 kids, we do the snack thing and the kids know about the expenses and 1/2 of them are picky eaters, so trying to do our own food most of the time makes great sense for us. I want to get the refridgerator for our room. I do want to do some eating in the park, things just sound so wonderful. I read somewhere that one of, maybe more, of the All Star resorts has connecting rooms. That would be good for us. Inlaws and 2 kids in one room and the rest in the other room.

I think I have checked out every Disney board for money saving tips(this one is the best, by far) I bought the Unofficial guide and it is full of great ideas and tips too.

You have been such a great help to me. I hope you keep posting ideas and info for me, I am joting everything down! Thanks so much!!

Hope you have a great weekend!!
