Places to stay near universal

Hi all

We are going against the grain and staying off Disney grounds this year. Just can't justify the cost. Wondering if anyone can recommend a nice place to stay for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. Our week budget for our lodging is 500.00

Any help is appreciated.

I would check travelzoo.com I seen the Hampton Inn for 55.00 dollars a night. If going in the Fall year prices should be down. I would check out the hotels on Canada Avenue. I stay at the Hawthorne Suites and easy drive to US.

DW and I stayed at the Holiday Inn right outside of Universal in April. It was fine but nothing special. Check out the Universal package deals, I think we paid $650 for 4 nights at the HI and 3 days park tickets. If you are planning to visit Universal, it might save you some money over booking separately.

Hi - if you are looking to stay near universal and want to stay off-site you should consider renting at Vista Cay.

We stay in a pop up camper. It was five to ten minute drive away. $76 for 4 nights. Bill Frederick park at turkey lake. This was our second time there.

I've gotten 3* hotels near Universal for around $50 night using Hotwire. I limit my search to 3* and up and in the Universal area. 1st time I got the Sheraton Studio City and the 2nd time Royal Palms. Both places were fine and I would stay at either one again. They were about half a mile from US/IOA.

I actually found my receipt for the Royal Palms. 3 nights there including all taxes and fees was a total of $136.
