We are driving down to WDW from NC on October 2nd with our check-in date at OKW on October 3rd. We did the drive last year all in one day and it wore us out and basically wasted the whole day because we didn't really feel like doing anything once we got to Orlando. So, this year we will be stopping after driving a bit and spending the night and finishing out our trip the following morning.

Right now I plan on driving at least to southern Georgia, very northern Florida and stopping for the night. That should leave me a 3 hour drive or so the next day which would get us close to check-in time and shouldn't tire us out.

My question is, do you have any favortie places you like to stay on the way down or nice cities to stop in and see? I've pulled out the atlas and used tripadvisor.com to research a couple of cities (St. Marys, St. Simons & Fernandina Beach) but always find that "real" experiences help just as much. What we would like is a nice hotel or even a bed & breakfast. The bed & breakfast, while more costly, would give us a good breakfast in the morning to get us started and plus we just like them.

Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

If you have some time, Brunswick Ga is a very nice area. If not Kingsland is usually cheaper with lots of motels, We stayed at the Holiday Inn, but I've heard good things about most of the motels there.

Haven't checked on Kingsland, will have to do that. Brunswick is just a tab bit north of where I would like to stop for the night.
