Places that are still good!

Well, I am getting worried. I just read reviews on Le Cellier and Ohana. They were both very negative. I just booked both for dinner during our May trip. I hate to hear the portions have become smaller with the meal plans. I know the last time we ate lunch at Le Cellier they gave us a menu that they said was dinner not lunch. It said lunch! They promptly took it up and said it was the wrong menu. We knew then that they have different menus for DDP. They asked us as we checked in if we were on the DDP. Now they have made other changes. I guess I should have check here before I made our DDP reservations. Oh well, I guess I could change them. Anyone have ideas on other places to eat that are still good?

...you should go and make your own opinion. Sometimes what other people find awful, you might like! Think how everyone has their own opinion on what tastes good and what is bad.
Go,HAVE FUN!!

Try it yourself. Dh, my friends and I all love Le Cellier and O'Hana. Each person has a different opinion. I suggest visiting O'Hana on a weekend, though. Every time we went there during the week, the food was sub-par. Go on a Friday or Saturday, however, and the food was fresh and excellent. You can also ask for substitutions, too. I don't like bread pudding, O'Hana included. They offered to substitute pineapple with caramel sauce or a kid's make your own sundae.

I love both places, even though I have read bad reviews. Please don't rule them out.

I'm sure that you will find bad reviews on every single place in Disney. I don't pay attention becaue I really like to form my opinion. We have ADRs at both Le Cell and Ohana in May and can't wait! :cool1:

Please don't change your mind based on some negative reviews. We went to LeCellier just last month and it was better than ever!:thumbsup2

I agree with the other posters - you have to form your own opinions. Take all reviews (even mine ;) ) with a grain of salt - you never know what contributes to someone's overall experience at a restaurant. And even the really good establishments can have off nights or servers who have bad days.

If you want to eat somewhere then go and have your own experience and then come back here and tell us all about it! :goodvibes

My DH and I ate at LeCellier last November and the food and service were still excellent. We were not rushed.

You booked these two places for a reason, so I say you should keep them! I was just like you before I went on my recent honeymoon trip. I read all of the dining reviews and worried myself silly over them. In some cases, I let those reviews influence my decisions and I never should have.

In fact, I did cancel my reservation at Ohana based on poor reviews, even though I had previously been looking forward to it. We stayed at the Poly and when we got there DH nearly had a fit that I canceled that ressie! So one night we wound up canceling another ADR and doing Ohana as a walk up. We had to wait an hour and forty-five minutes to get in, but it was TOTALLY worth it. We LOVED the place. It was our favorite Disney restaurant, save for California Grill. Moral of the story? I should have trusted my own judgment and my own taste buds.

I will also say that we ate at Le Cellier and it was very good. Not *quite* as good as it was built up to be, but still good. I haven't read many negative reviews on Le Cellier, but my guess is that it's not that people found it to be bad necessarily, just that it didn't live up to the hype. So if you can go there with reasonable expectations, you might really like it.

Good luck with your decision! :goodvibes

I have always had very good food at Le Cellier - tried them for lunch in October, and had the best prime rib sandwich! One of the best meals of the trip.

Can't speak about O"Hana - have never been there.

I always try to take restaurant reviews with a grain of salt. Any restaurant can have a bad day. My worst meal in October was at Raglan Road - the worst fish and chips I've ever eaten. Cold, soggy, and very unappetizing. But lots of people love this restaurant!

I say, give a restaurant a try if it seems interesting to you. You might get a not-good meal, but that's not the end of the world. You might be surprised that you like something that you've heard reveiwed poorly!

You just have to try it yourself, I would never eat anywhere in WDW if it based on reviews nor would I ever stay on site.

The only person who can give you an exact review of anything, be it food or ride, is you. If you only go by what others say, you'll be missing out on a lot. If I were you, I wouldn't change or cancel any of my ADR's based on anything I read here. Just because it's not their cup of tea doesn't mean it's not going to be yours.

I agree with the OPs. Try them for yourself. We ate at O'Hana's many years ago and enjoyed it but for some reason haven't been back - not due to poor sevice or bad tasting food, though, just..."whatever". We ate at LeCellier last August and were favorably impressed by the whole experience. Attentive without being overbearing waiter, good service, good food. Don't change anything. Try differest restaurants for yourself and form your own opinion. Also keep in mind that you may have a superlative experience at a restaurant one day, and the next time you go it could very well be sub-par.

I think Le Cellier is a victim of it's reputation. It has been built up by good reviews. Then with the dining plan a lot of people make ADR's. It is not a big place so it becomes harder to get in. Because it is hard to get an ADR it becomes this mythical place that can't be missed. Then people go there with such high expectations that they are disappointed and write bad reviews.

I'm on the side that still likes it - we have ADR for July.

There have been a lot of comments about menu changes and the blame is put on the dining plan but I don't agree. I think that if there are changes they would have been done regardless.

We ate at LeCellier in September for the third time and did not notice any difference in the portion/size of the food. I had the Cheddar Cheese Soup (same as always), the petit filet over cheddar cheese mashed potatos--again the same size as I always remember it being.

You have to form your own opinions like former posters have said. Not everyone is going to like the same thing. I really like Chef Mickey's breakfast and I've seen a lot of posts where people think that Chef Mickey's is gross.

This trip we are trying all new restaurants except for Chef Mickey's. We are doing dinner though which is something we've never done at Chef Mickey's - only breakfast.

I'm looking forward to it! Hopefully we'll enjoy the meals!

I have read terrible reviews about Ohana for a long time now but we are going to try it for ourselves in April, it was one of DH's picks.

We have dined at Le Cellier for lunch and dinner and it has always been fantastic. We are going again in Oct.

I would take all the reviews with a grain of salt. Alot of people may hate the restaurant and you may go and absolutely love it and wonder what those people were thinking. This is from experience with Coral Reef. Last year I booked a ADR and after that all the reviews I had read were nothing but negative. I too wondered what I had done and was wondering if I should change it or not. I didn't because of all the good things I had heard about it , and WOW I loved the restaurant and so did my family. It was so nice and the service was excellent and the atmosphere was amazing. It was one of our best meals that week. If I had taken the negative reviews I would of never experienced the dining we had at Coral Reef. We also have Ohana's dinner booked for the first time and will not cancel it because of the good things we have heard about it and the fun it will be for our kids. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

We've been going to WDW for several years so we try to try a new place each visit. We tried Le Cellier for dinner and while it was good, just didn't understand all the hype about it. We would do it again though. We loved the food at Ohana, there was just so much of it. Many people hate Coral Reef - it's our favorite.

If I had stayed away from every restaurant that got a bad review, we'd be pretty darn hungry.

Try what you want. Only you know your tastes and preferences.

As much as I love the advice I get from people on this board I wouldn't base my dining on them. I would only trust a restaurant review if it was from a friend of mine who knew my tastes. Now if someone said a particular restaurant was known for rats (and I don't mean the animated kind!) in the kitchen, that might be a different story. :goodvibes

I have been using this as a good example. When the Italian restaurant in Italy changed over, people here were up in arms about the price of the antipasto (salad) that serves 2 people -- it's $24 (for two). Well, we got there and ordered it and I thought it was a bargain for that price. I am around those sorts of Italian luncheon meats and cheeses a lot and I know how expensive those things are separately. I also noticed that they were some of the freshest tasting meats/cheeses I've had in a long time.

It just goes to show you, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but delicious is in the stomach of the taster.

ENJOY yourself, no matter where you eat :goodvibes !
