Wanting to book using our placeholders, and I know we need to call to do so. Quick question though, we are only getting 10% off of the fares and not the total correct? Meaning we are not getting 10% off the taxes and port fees? Trying to do the math before we settle on our cruise! Thanks in advance, have not booked with one before!

You are correct. The 10% applies to the fare and then you have to add back the taxes and fees.

We had a placeholder from our last cruise. Honestly it didn’t seem to help us much on this itinerary were on now. I booked the cabin separately on my own and then called in to book it (again) using the place holder. It seems the “current fare” was higher when I called in than when I separately booked it online resulting in the net result being the same for the two bookings.

So, unless I’m totally doing it wrong (maybe?) I didn’t find much advantage, if any. That said, the deposit wasn't $$ much either so I didn’t really loose anything by doing it and taking a chance at a savings.

This was when booking the itinerary I am now on (10 day, fantasy, Caribbean in cat 04A). Booked around Oct 2023.

FWIW…

You have to call to use a placeholder; it cannot be applied to a booking you did yourself. Depending on the itinerary it is highly possible that fares increased quickly on opening day.

You may have booked the last cabin sold at X price. And, yes, the price does continue to rise on many cruises. Sometimes by thousands for a cabin. And in the matter of days.

It’s possible any of that may have been it. We’ll definitely try it again as there doesn’t really seem to be a downside, really.

For the record, I booked the itinerary through the website and then called in to book it again (a duplicate) using the placeholder just to compare. So to be clear, for that day we had two independent reservations for the same cabin cat. They were slightly different cost, maybe a hundred bucks different.. not really notable given the overall fare (4 ppl in our party).

Anyway, I don’t want to hijack this thread.. so just suffice it to say it might be worth checking or researching a little more than I did - I definitely do NOT know all the tips and tricks!
