Placeholder Question

Hi Everyone,
During our last cruise our family booked a place holder. $250, put everyones names on the card, got a confirmation via email. Category, stateroom, and description all say GTY. I also added my TA to the reservation in order to make sure that I had everything all taken care of.
We decided to add DMIL to the plan. She has never been and we want to share the magic with her!

HERE'S THE QUESTION: When we book a date...Do we have to pay anything extra up front when we make the reservation?
When speaking to our TA, she said she called DCL and that we would have to put 20% down. This wasn't explained to us when we booked (The CM at the table looked rushed and we didn't ask the right questions at the time) I'm happy to do what is ever needed. This is the first time we have ever done something like this, so there is a learning curve.

Yes, you’ll have to put down a 20% deposit when you convert your placeholder to an actual cruise. The 250$ you already paid will be deducted of the cost of the deposit. After that, you have until a specific date to pay off the rest of the cruise. The date varies according to different parameters. You can pay in multiple payments if needed up until your Paid in a Full date.

Onboard booking policy: Guests who book their next cruise while onboard will only have to pay a 10% deposit. You do not have to select a sail date for your booking if you don't wish, you can book what's called a placeholder reservation. The deposit for these placeholder cruises will be $250 per stateroom. When you book onboard, you will receive up to a $200 onboard credit per stateroom and a reduced deposit on sailings 7 nights or longer. Travel on these onboard bookings must be completed within 24 months to maintain these benefits. If you are unable to sail within this time period, the onboard booking benefits will be removed from the reservation.

You only pay 10% with an OBB.

An OBB booking will require a 10% deposit for cruises 7 nights or longer, and a 20% deposit for cruises 6 nights or less. 7 night+ cruises will get a $200 onboard credit, and cruises up to 6 nights will get a $100 onboard credit.

If DMIL wasn't on the reservation to start with, the cost for her will be the prevailing cost (for her) at the time you add her.

They have a placeholder, so the cost for everybody will be the prevailing cost when then convert that into a specific cruise date.
