Placeholder/ OBB

Hey everyone! So back on our 2016 cruise we got a placeholder to receive the OBB benefits. We booked a January 2018 cruise when dates came out using the placeholder. Its looking like we may need to use the cruise money for some home repairs . Does anyone know if we had to cancel this cruise if they could kove placeholder/obb to a new cruise as long as its in the time window? Looking at moving to september which would give us some wiggle room paying it off.

As long as the cruise you book still meets the requirements for an OBB, you should receive the benefits. We had to do this recently, changed the cruise we ultimately booked from our placeholder to 2 weeks earlier, and everything remained the same in regard to to OBB benefits.

Changing the cruise within the allotted 24 months is allowed. I've done it three times with no problem- still retained all of the OBB perks.

Depending on the length of the cruise you book - reduced deposit (for cruises of 7 nights and longer); $100 Onboard credit for cruises of less than 7 nights; $200 Onboard credit for cruises of 7 nights or longer; 10% reduction on cruise fare.

Just for (my own) clarity, though: the 10% reduction on cruise fare is on the prevailing fare at the time you redeem the placeholder, correct?

Remember that there are blackout dates where you won't get the 10% discount. Not sure if you would still get the $100/$200 OBC for those or not.

You do get the onboard credit, just not the discount.

OP, be careful when you are making changes. Don't tell DCL that you are cancelling anything. Once they hear the word cancel and do that to your reservation, that OBB is gone. You want to be careful of the language that you use with res agents. Make sure you tell them you want to move your OBB and give them the new date. That will preserve your discount and OB credits. Cancelling and rebooking a new date will not.

I'm not sure that you can get a refund without canceling, which would lose the OBB perks. If the OBB still only has initial deposit, you will need to transfer that amount to the new cruise date (plus pay any additional deposit if required); assuming all other funds are still in your bank account, that will work. But if you have made payments to DCL already beyond the deposit, I just wanted to point out that you are unlikely to get a refund from DCL and keep the OBB benefits.

We have only paid the initial deposit. I always pay it off later in case an emergency arose. I talked to my husband about it but he says september is too far away so we may not even switch it. I always just think or worst case scenario. Have some cracks that appeared in the house so my mind is going to foundation problems. I'm the worrier and saver and hubby is the happy go lucky spender.
