Placeholder Booking Question

Couldn't find this specific questiom via forum search - sorry if this was answered before.

I purchased a placeholder for two staterooms a while ago, and understand that these need to be used for the same cruise of which I am a guest in one of the staterooms.

We're looking to book a somewhat last minute cruise this year to use the placeholder before it expires, but the party we are traveling with aren't sure yet whether the dates will work for them.

As the inventory continues to dwindle, I'm wondering if it's possible to use one placeholder to book our stateroom first, and book the second stateroom on the same cruise using the other one at a later date? Mostly concerned whether converting the first placeholder to a booking will somehow invalidate the second placeholder if they are linked. In the DCL's "My Reservations", I only see the "Future Cruise Placeholder" booking as a single reservation number with a note "1 of 2 staterooms". Or is that just because I can only be a guest in one stateroom in the system?

I’ve done this a few times - purchased two placeholders but only converted one to a specific cruise date. I asked the CM and they explained that I could still book the second one at a later date - it would remain “linked” in the system to the cruise I chose to book. Each time I’ve done this we’ve never ended up booking the second cabin as we didn’t have anyone that could come along, so I just ended up having them refunded or transferred the money to another booking.

Interesting, as I thought if you booked a two-room placeholder you were supposed to use both rooms on the same cruise. I've never booked a double-room placeholder so maybe I'm misunderstanding that rule.

You do have to use them on the same cruise, but you they told me that I don't have to book the two cabins on an actual cruise at the same time. i.e. if i hadn't yet found anyone who wanted to sail with us but wanted to book my cabin on the cruise I could, then at a later date i could come back and the second party to the second placeholder on the cruise.

Ah, okay. Sorry I think I misread your post initially. I took it to mean you booked one room and they told you they would keep the other room for a different cruise.
