We are staying in SF one night but need a room for 5 that wont break the bank. We would like to stay somewhere we can walk and use cable cars to get to places. Ive read alot about the Columbus Motor Inn, but their website doesnt give much info and when I called I barely understood the guy. So called back this morning, and Im sure they gave me drastically different prices for the same room.

Appreciate any help!!

I don't specically know of hotels that have rooms for 5.

Using the Cable Cars is nice. Remember that you can search a large location near the line. Union Square and the Wharf area have the best prices. You want to be within a few blocks of Powel at the Union Square end. Within a few blocks of Hyde near the water or Taylor a few blocks before the water. The track splits but only the Hyde line goes to the water.

The Cable Car pass, is good on all Muni the local transportation system in San Fransisco. You can stay elsewhere in the city and use the buses, street cars or light rail to get to the core tourist area along the cable car tracks.

yes the cable car will only get you to a few locations. just take muni (bus, streetcar, train) wherever else you want to go.

staying around union square is good but stick near the big hotels if you choose a smaller one - that area gets real sketchy real fast as you get near the tenderloin.

We've had good luck with deals at the Sir Frances Drake, but prices seem to have gone up recently. We do a girls trip there so we don't like to go off Powell if we can avoid it.
