I currently have a place holder that I want to use to book a cruise on Tuesday when Gold booking opens. I know I can't book a room online with a place holder. But, can I hold a room online and then move the room to my place holder when I call to make my reservation?

It can't really be "moved" in that way but I think what would happen is that you'd have to cancel that original one while on the phone then try to have the agent book that same room - it's possible but I suppose not guaranteed since someone could snag that room when it comes back into inventory.

No, you cannot. You will only be reducing available inventory at the current cruise fare when you do the online hold, possibly driving up the cruise fare that you will get when you call in to book, as well as tying up the cabin you would want.

Thank you, but I was only planning to hold the room for an hour or 2 at the most. And I certainly wouldn't be doing anything different than others that hold rooms in order to secure the one they want while they shop for a cruise. I doubt that would drive up costs that quickly.

You must not have seen the threads about Hawaii and Greece. Those had rates going up as people were on the phone. So yes, it can drive up costs quickly if lots of people are holding them.

True, but those were special cruises. The ones being released are just the same as always, so unlikely the prices would go up. We've booked 5 different cruises Jan-March(2 during Spring break) and none of them have been sold out at time of sailing and the prices have taken many months before they have gone up. But I see what you are saying in your example, unfortunately there's no exciting cruises this round.

Fair enough. Not "exciting" to us as the "been-there-done-that" crowd (personally I find any cruise exciting - it is what you make it), but you never know when others are going to want to start cruising. It's just something to be aware of. This release does include Presidents' Week - which is a big break time for the Northeast at least - and gets into rolling Spring Break, so the possibility does exist. It may be unlikely, but it exists. :)
