Place holder after booking: Anyone done this?

On our last cruise almost 8 weeks ago, we totally forgot about buying a placeholder. We were too busy having fun.

We plan on booking a Europe 2023 cruise next week
Of course without a place holder we miss on the 10%

We have an upcoming cruise this July.
What if I buy a place holder there & use it to book the same Europe cruise in 2023 (another SR - if it's not sold out), thus getting the 10%
And then cancel the original booking.

When talking about a Europe cruise, 10% is a nice $1,500-$2,500 discount

Has anyone done this?

You can certainly do that but you may not get as much saving as your hoping for as the cruise will go up in price very quickly. Worth getting the placeholder and checking the rate when you return though.

Urgh...you're right. I forgot rates go up sometimes even just a day after the initial booking window opens.
So yah, probably not going to be worth it... I feel so dumb for not buying the placeholder then.

It is certainly worth a try: if the price has gone up substantially, you can cancel the placeholder (or just hold onto it for a different cruise) but if the price hasn't gone up more than 10% you can use the placeholder.

You might need to select a different room when you book for the 2nd time, but you should be able to then change the room unless the initial room is snapped up as soon as your first reservation cancels.

Different cruises go up in price at different rates. Some don't go up at all. A European cruise probably will, but you don't know how much or how fast until it happens. It's worth a try.
