Pizza for dinner tonight.... Want to know why?

Six years ago today, my mom was at Pizza Hut with my two kids, then 6 and 8. They were having lunch, and waiting for "the call." DH and I were at the hospital, and the doctor said it was almost time. Time to call the big brother and sister to tell them to come and watch their new sibling being born. It would be an hour so.

As soon as we hung up the phone, the fetal monitor showed that the baby's heartrate dropped rapidly. It was an emergency. The doctor was just about to do a C-section when he did one last check, saw that I had dilated from 4 to 10 within minutes, and delivered the baby. She was gray and not breathing, and the infant resuscitation team -- fortunately called quickly -- worked on her for what seemed forever to get her breathing.

In the meantime, pizza had been abandoned, and DS and DD were blissfully unaware of the traumatic situation they were missing. By the time they got there, the baby was pink and breathing normally, and they got to hold their sweet little sister.

We now have pizza every year on October 28th, in memory of that abandoned pizza lunch and in thankfulness for our happy, healthy girl. I've been telling her ever since she was old enough to make a choice that we don't HAVE to have pizza; she can choose whatever she wants for her birthday dinner. But she loves pizza and she loves to hear the story, so pizza it is at our house for dinner tonight.

:bday: DD SIX!

What a great story and tradition! I'm so happy you had a good outcome from what must have been very frightening. What kid doesn't love pizza? I think it's neat that she still chooses to go there!

what a sweet story. I can only imagine how scared you must have been, but how wonderful that everything worked out well. Happy Birthday and enjoy the pizza!

That's a wonderful story! I'm sure she'll keep telling it throughout her life!

As for what kid doesn't like pizza... mine didn't. It took what seemed like forever for them to give up their taste for borscht and blinis and for them to develop a taste for pizza. They still turn their noses to chicken nuggets, though.

So, since my kids now like pizza, too, we will celebrate with you with a sicilian pizza with onions tonight from our favorite shop.

What a great story.

At our house the b-day boy/girl gets to pick their dinner of choice. Its funny how since the kids been getting older their taste buds have matured and now they asking for greater variety then what they did when younger, however pizza in our house is celebrated meal!

God Bless your sweet little girl and your family!!!

Want to know why? 6 years ago today, we received the call we had a healthy, beautiful new little nephew. 4 hours later, he was gone. The valves to his little heart were reversed and no oxygen was able to pass.

It truly makes me happy to hear how your story turned out. :lovestruc

You scared me...I was afraid to finish reading it! Whew...glad it turned out so great! Happy Birthday to your little sweetie!
