Pizza by the slice spinoff - smaller (more or less) individual-sized pizza trend

I've noticed there are quite a few pizza places that now only do what I'd consider smaller pizzas - maybe 11 inches in diameter. Maybe not exactly individual sized, but I can share one with my kid and we're OK. Also typically made on demand with an open "build your own" environment like Chipotle.

Places like Mod Pizza, Pieology, and even a few neighborhood individual pizza places seem to be going towards smaller pizzas that might be shared or where two might be ordered among 3 people.. Mod Pizza is a little bit different in that they don't specifically charge for toppings, although I'd think they would stop if someone asks for everything or asks for excessive toppings. They also have a mini (6 inch) pizza, but the price is almost the same as the 11 inch.

When we were at Disneyland I though about going to the old standby there - Napolini in Downtown Disney. That's really just the casual/takeout part of Napoli. I've had pizza there and they have some really massive ones including their extra large rectangular pizza. But Napolini mostly sold pre-prepared slices. Now they've gone to only 11 inch pizza. It was good, if you like traditional thin crust that baked in a few minutes.

I get personal sized pizzas, but there are these places these days that place the topping on "Chipotle" style and don't have anything larger than 10-11 inches. That's kind of the thing I'm thinking of, especially places like Mod Pizza.

And here's wishing you an early Happy National Pizza Day which is Feb 9th and no I didn't look that up!! :teeth:

I like the build your own pizza places because we all like different things on our pizzas and I can customize to how I want it. I like veggies, dh likes meats, ds only likes sausage and dd plain cheese.

We have Blaze Pizza where I live, which sounds like what you're describing. They only do one size and I can eat it all if I'm really hungry. ;) I love it, because they have a totally grain-free, gluten-free crust that I can eat and I can get any toppings I want.

The personal pizza places. How to rip off a family of 4 for $30 when they could have just bought a $15 pizza.

When DGD was younger we'd buy dough from the local pizzeria or WF every Friday and make our own.
Great for a fridge cleanout. I tended to go for a half sheet size but nothing to stop you from making individuals.

The one time we went to Pieology, the crust was soggy and floppy. I think if they did any bigger, it would be raw dough in the middle in the time they have to cook it. We like thick crust so just don't go to places like that because it's not possible to cook a real pizza in that time.

We have several of those places here. They are great if you are meeting friends because there is no worry about splitting the bill and everyone gets what they want, but they are quite pricey for a family.

My family loves this trend, as I'm the only one who likes lots of veggies, DH is a BBQ chicken guy, and DS likes pineapple on his. :crazy2:
