Pixie dust

30+ stays at WDW and no upgrades for me. BUT...a few years ago, during Year of a Million Dreams, dh and dd flew down to WDW and met me there. My eldest dd was already there with me. We were at Pop and then moving over to BWV into a one bedroom villa. Dh was attending a business thing at the YC...so he had our dd booked with him, even though she was going to be staying with us over at BWVs. Well, imagine our surprise when he checked in at YC to find that he had been given an upgrade as part of YoMD!!! He got a room up in concierge...gold room key and all!!! Same for our dd!!! Geez. His boss wasn't too thrilled since he was in a regular room the same as everyone else!!
Other than that? Never an upgrade..not in over 10 years of going to WDW.

Once while checking into Pop Century we were upgraded to CSR. A van came and took us and our luggage to CSR. What a wonderful surprise!

Anybody here ever have any pixie dust sprinkled on them with a room or resort upgrade?

On our trip last April we had booked a woods view at WL and got put in inner courtyard instead. It was beautiful and perfectly located!

I booked a regular garden view room at the poly and when we arrived some guy said our last name and WELCOME! let me take you to your room. I was a little puzzled. I told my husband wow this is how you get treated when you stay deluxe. When we arrived to our room we were upgraded to Club Level ...Amazing stay...Now when we go we only want to stay CL! LOL

:cool1::cheer2:

Our very first trip to BWI we were upgraded to CL. My DH said Disney knew what they were doing because we have a very hard time when we don't stay CL now!

Also at BC CL we had paid for a regular view and got upgraded to a water view - the most perfect view of SAB you can imagine. It was great.

Last April at BW CL - my kids helped the CL CM's find another guest's missing souvenir. As a thank you the CM's surprised my kids with balloons and cupcakes in our room from the bakery!

3 years ago, my BF and I stayed at Coronado Springs. We booked a standard KING room. Well, when we checked in, we discovered that we had a suite! pixiedust:

It was 2 rooms. One room had a giant living area with couch, chairs, coffee table, a large TV, a large round table (dining) with 4 chairs, and a bathroom with seperate toilet, shower/tub. The second room (seperated by giant sliding doors) was the master bedroom. This was similar to the standard room i had stayed in before - king bed, couch, table chairs and a large bathroom.

It was very unexpexted and a great surprise. Especially since this was darling BF's first ever trip to the world. Except now he thinks all "standard" rooms are this gigantic. haha :rotfl2:

Our family has 40+ stays and here are the upgrades:

Asked at AKL for room with bunkbed and was upgraded from std to savannah view and paid only $106 a night due due a hurricane recently passing fla in 2004.

In 2005 we were given our GV room at GF. Ds 8yr birthday and saw the room on ground floor so we went back to lobby and told them birthday boy would like balcony and upgraded to lagoon view room 3rd floor.

In 2011 we went for ds 14 bday to CR. we had booked the deluxe GW room and were upgraded to Atrium club. He really loved it!

This past May when dh and I checked in for our Std view room at Poly I asked if any rooms with kings because 1st trip without kids and we were upgraded to TPV CL room:yay:

We got some major pixie dust a few times as well. On one trip, we booked pool view at AKL and we were upgraded to Savannah view. And at the BC, twice, we've gotten upraded to CL!!

Stayed at ASM and CBR and have never been upgraded. However, knowing others receive it, especially those with a sick child or in some other way are in need, is pixie dust for me. Makes my stays better.

Is there any tips to getting this or was it just completely outta the blue luck?

I've been uber-pixie dusted. We've been upgraded to savannah view almost every time at AKL--I almost expect it now! But the ultimate upgrade was 2 years ago when we were given a suite at WL. We were there for only one night, so I think that's why it happened. It was the by far the most magical Disney moment ever!!

We were upgraded to WL CL on our honeymoon in 2008. We had booked standard view.

We were upgraded from a standard to a savannah view at AKL (Kidani) a few years ago. I never asked for an upgrade but as I was getting checked in, the CM informed us that we were upgraded.. It was nice because grandma was with us that trip and it was her first trip to Disney in 25 years.:thumbsup2

No upgrades for our family yet after several trips, but as several people have said ill just be excited if it ever does happen. I had a lot if pixie dust on my day at Hollywood Studios last year :)

Go at busier times when they are more likely to have overbooked the standard/cheapest rooms at whatever resort you are staying at. They typically only upgrade because they literally don't have a room available for you in the room category you originally booked.

The other main reason is if you aren't satisfied with the room you are assigned to (like the example earlier with the request for a king bedded room/a balcony). The CM's can give you an upgrade at their discretion if there aren't rooms available in your booked category with the feature you want, but they are available in a "better" room category. In this situation it pays to be polite and non-entitled. For example, don't demand a room with a balcony just ask if there are any available and you might get lucky.

Chasgoose is right I just remembered the one upgrade we had in 20 something trips, but it was magical...

Checked in at Poly CL was horrible, no one to great us, curb staff never showed up, never got leis, had to go in & ask them to get walk us over to CL ( have to have key to even get in building)
Check in CM kept remarking how early it was (740 am) my reservation was noted for early check in. Never got a text with room number so had to go back to CL desk to ask only to get oh your room was ready before you left for park this morning! Then when DH and DS went to room the door wouldn't even shut all the way to be able to lock!! DH called for manager he apologized & offered DH 3rd floor TPV there in CL building! DH thanked him said I would be thrilled! We sat every morning watching sunrise over castle & fireworks in the evening.. So beautiful!!!

No tips that I can think of but when we stayed at AKL, it was during a slower time (2nd week in November) & we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary during our actual anniversary date (not sure if that made any difference). As for the BC, it was during the month of August.

Me & my sister stayed at WL for her birthday, originally I had just book at standard view. Upon check-in we had a CM greet us & lead us up to CL. They had some chocolates waiting for us in our room. It was nice & appreciated.
