My poor little westie is at the vets today. Since Thursday she has been hesitant to go up the stairs or jump up onto "her" chair. We thought she just twisted her back leg. She seemed better Saturday but then late yesterday she was back to not wanting to go up stairs. This morning she really didn't want to up and the down the stairs to go out. Then I found her shaking and panting heavily under the end table. She has no interest in anything. I called the emergency vet and got her in this morning. They think it may be a back injury with one of her vertebrae-thoracic or lumbar. She is having x-rays and bloodwork done today. I would appreciate any prayers or pixie dust that this is an easily treatible problem and she does well. The vet did talk about steroids and crate rest, which Snowy will just hate but too bad. I really don't want her to have to have back surgery. The vet isn't her regular vet because he wasn't open until noon and his emergency back up hospital is not very good. This veterinary hospital has a great reputation and so far I am happy with how she has been treated. So I am home from work today waiting for the vet to call. Thanks for reading this far and for any prayers or pixie dust.
Update on Snowy
The vet called and Snowy has arthritis all through her hips. Her back is fine. She also has loose hip joints. She is only 8 years old but a very active, jumping terrier. She will be on an antiinflammatory for 10 days and then we will decide on long term therapy. This vet does supplements and acupuncture which sounds interesting. Thanks for the prayers and PD.
