I loved the Roundtable discussion about Up. DH and I haven't seen it yet but will soon, I'm sure.

Awhile ago, there was discussion on one of the boards about "What Walt would be proud of"

I think Pixar is the embodiment of what Walt envisioned. I think he would be most proud of what they're turning out. The storytelling, attention to detail, and the multi-generational appeal of their product. John Lasseter is the "heir apparent" to Walt, NOT Bob Iger.

I totally agree. John Lasseter definitely has a grasp of what Walt envisioned. Who the heck ever thought it was Bob Iger? I never even thought it was Michael Eisner, even in the early years. They are business men, MAYBE a bit comparable to Roy, but not Walt.

thats pretty true...

Can anyone figure out why we have to wait til october in the UK to see it?

We saw it in 3-D this weekend and it was good. I agree that parts of the movie are really sad...be forewarned- bring tissues for at least the first 20 minutes of the movie! The only part we didn't like was (if you haven't seen it yet stop here)-

We didn't care that much for all the dogs. Dug was adorable and funny, but the other dogs cooking food for the guy in the blimp and flying planes seemed a little out of place and a little too stereotypical cartoonish- but I guess it is a kids movie and they seemed to be laughing. Overall it was a sweet story with lots of good parts.

I thought the movie was great. But I thought it hit a little too close to home. It reminded me of my late husband. I can't wait to hear what parents of kids thought of the movie. I didn't hear a lot of the kids laughing in the theater today.

I plan to see UP this weekend. It looks funny:thumbsup2

I know what you mean, a lot of things hit too close to home for us too, and I was a wreck. I don't think the kids in the theater really "got" a lot of it. After the first 15-20 minutes a lot of the adults were crying and next to us a little boy looked at his mom and said "Mom, are you okay? Why are you crying?" and people were passing tissues out. The kids only giggled at the silly parts with Kevin, Dug and the little boy being goofy, other than that I am not sure if the real little ones understood much else.

itook my 4YO DD this past weekend. there were many parts all thru the movie where she (and I) were laughing out loud. she (blessedly) did not get the emotionally wrenching parts, or notice that i was sitting there bawling (and i was not alone - many other adults and even some teens were crying too) i am a bit of an emotional wreck the last few months, so i might not be the best gage for the overall sadness of this movie. i didn't just cry during the scene towards the beginning....i choked up at many points during the movie. all in all, great movie. good time for kids (oblivious to the sad parts) and good time for adults as long as you are down with the bitter along with the sweet.

IMHO Truly quality Disney entertainment.

This is why our whole family loves Disney, we all went to see "Up" on Saturday night and we all thought it was great. The kids thought that Dug was hilarious, (so did I;)). The story is what really drives this movie and it was very well done. Sad in parts but overall left you with a great feeling at the end.

Good job Disney, keep it up!:thumbsup2
