Summer 2018 will bring a transformed land for guests to experience at Disney California Adventure park when Pixar Pier opens along the southern shore of Paradise Bay, with newly themed attractions, foods and merchandise throughout. This new, permanent land in the area that is now Paradise Pier will introduce four new neighborhoods representing beloved Disney·Pixar stories.

The first of the four themed neighborhoods guests will find is inspired by “The Incredibles.” Here, the new Incredicoaster, permanently transformed from the attraction that is now California Screamin’, will open with Pixar Pier in summer 2018. This new experience will feature a mid-century-modern-style loading area, new character moments and a new look for the ride vehicles. To prepare for this transformation, California Screamin’ will close Jan. 8.

The popular Toy Story Mania! will anchor the “Toy Story”-inspired neighborhood. A neighborhood inspired by “Inside Out” will be found on the western side of the boardwalk and will welcome a new family-friendly attraction, scheduled to open at a later date.

The fourth neighborhood will be a celebration of many of your favorite Pixar stories. In this neighborhood, Mickey’s Fun Wheel will have a new look, with each of the 24 gondolas featuring different Pixar characters and the iconic face of Mickey Mouse remaining on the Paradise Bay side of the wheel. At the Games of the Boardwalk, which already includes the Bullseye Stallion Stampede game, all of the midway games will be inspired by Pixar characters. Mickey’s Fun Wheel, Games of the Boardwalk and Sideshow Shirts will close Jan. 8 to begin this transformation.

Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar will be transformed into a new lounge and grill offering sparkling views of Paradise Bay and the new Pixar Pier. Both locations will close Jan. 8, with Cove Bar reopening briefly in April before closing again for its permanent transformation. Guests wishing to reserve “World of Color” dining packages after Jan. 7 may consider Carthay Circle Restaurant or Wine Country Trattoria.

The remaining areas of the land that is now Paradise Pier, including Paradise Gardens, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, Goofy’s Sky School, Golden Zephyr and The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, will become a new land called Paradise Park.

Pixar Pier will open during the limited-time Pixar Festcelebration, which begins April 13. The celebration will include the new “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” fireworks as well as the return of Pixar Play Parade and “Paint the Night” parade, and much more throughout the entire Disneyland Resort.

You can read more about what’s coming to Pixar Pier in the November issue of Disney twenty-three magazine, from our friends at D23: The Official Disney Fan Club. Keep an eye on Disney Parks Blog for more as the permanent transformation of Pixar Pier gets underway!

We are so shocked that the transformation is happening so quickly.

We travel from Australia every year to visit Disneyland. Unfortunately our next trip is January 22nd 2018. Sad that we won't see Paradise Pier in its original state again.

We also have Disneyworld planned for the same trip, so we might cancel Disneyland as the attractions are quite similar between the two.

I don't feel like it is that much. Toy Story will remain open. The wheel is closing (but I hate the wheel and know I am not alone) and Screamin as the only two rides being closed. Screamin' is a bummer because it is a people eater, but we knew that one was coming.

I am excited about this. I was bummed they didn't tell what the new ride was going to be, though it looks like you can see it in the concept art. I noticed they did not mention anything about the Pixar theater in the original concept art. I hope Bing Bongs will be there as originally shown. Interesting to note that the Dash Coaster rumor was close as we're getting an Incredicoaster, but there is not a new ride going in the Helix near the entrance to Screamin'. They also didn't say anything about the M&G location. I assume they would create a better one than the Toy Story M&G that is currently on the other side of Screamin'.

Yes, with almost the entire pier down it's a shock. We definately wanted to do Screamin, Mickeys Fun Wheel and Cove Bar. Also curious if this affects World of Color?

They mentioned still being able to make WOC reservations at other restaurants. So it isn't being closed down. Also, the whole pier isn't closed. Just 2 rides and a restaurant.

Wow that's quick! I had no idea our trip this past August would be the last time we'd see Paradise Pier as it was. CS won't be the same without Neil Patrick Harris talking about our "safety, safety, safety" but I guess it won't be CS anymore, either! We're headed back next August and I imagine it'll all be changed by then. I'm excited to see the changes but a little sad at the same time.

Yes that's true, I guess it depends on the demographics of each family to determine whether it is worth attending during construction.

We are both in our late 20's with no children, so we don't tend to utilise the smaller rides (on the pier) that will remain open ( other than Toy Story Mania).

I'm sure there are still plenty of drawcards for younger families during the construction phase though.

Just a bit saddened by the quick news as it's difficult to change plans 2 months out when you travel so far.

I'm confused about the timeline.
CS will be closed Jan 8th until the summer?
Cove will close, reopen in April for a bit then close again until summer? But then it says Pixar pier will open April 13th. Please help clear things up for me! My heart was set on Spring dapper days but this sounds like it has thrown a serious wrench in my plans

Turning Screamin' into Incredicoaster is great! Of course, I'm not going to be there while it's down (like what happened with ToT), so I don't miss anything. But adding Incredible characters with that soundtrack will make an already-exciting ride into a true Disney ride.

They made it sound like the Pier, except the new ride, would be open by April 13. Interesting about the Cove bar. I assumed they were opening it for Spring Break and then closing it again to open with the Pier. I guess the timeline is a bit odd.

I'm so sad that Ariel's Grotto is closing. It was also our must do lunch when my kids and I went to Disneyland/CA. I think in the past 7 years from the time my daughter was 3 to now we've been there at least 15 times. I have sooo many pictures of my kids with the princesses. I guess I'll have to make sure I get in one more trip before it closes.

I’m confused too. I read about this on the News & Rumors thread. We will be there April 12-14, and the way I read it, I thought the rides/area would still be closed, but that Pixar Fest would begin on the 13th. But maybe I read too quickly and jumped to conclusions?

I’m reading it as it will open during the festival not when the festival starts. My estimated guess is it will open Memorial Day weekend.

It's sad and a bit odd because it has to be very lucrative for Disney. Perhaps they will add a new Princess meal somewhere else. I hope we don't have to wait for the new hotel to get Princess dining. Our older daughter was never into Princesses (except Elsa), but our 2 y/o daughter loves Princesses and I was looking forward to a princess meal some day. I guess there is always WDW when we get around to going there.

After your statement I re-read the announcement and I guess you are right. It doesn't say it is opening April 13 it says it opens during the celebration beginning April 13. My original guess was also Memorial Day weekend. That makes sense too as they consider that summer and they said it was coming Summer 2018.

Does anyone happen to know if the new Incredicoaster will still contain the loop? Our daughter has been waiting for years to reach the height requirement and she finally did, so we have a March trip planned. So sad she won't have the opportunity to ride CS, but if the new one will have a loop when it opens in summer that will be a reason for a summer trip :)
