Pixar-Disney. Two good things that taste great together, or...

We've discussed whether or not Pixar and Disney are getting back together. Let's assume that if the two sides were to patch up their differences that the contract would be less favorable to Disney than the current contract.

Is this a good move on Disney's part or not?

If the rumors are true, that Disney and Pixar will be co-producing animated features again, and Lassiter et al will still be involved, with Ei$ner still running the show further South, I am curious what our regular posters think.

I for one would applaud Disney continuing its relationship with Pixar even if the terms were not as favorable as the last contract for reasons stated before (although, if need be, I'll call them up again). Anyone else?

I agree, even if it is just a distribution deal for Disney they still would get associated with all of Pixar's movies. It always would probably include theme park attraction rights which is good for both parties.

Certainly we will never know the intracacies of the deal or the dealings, but if Pixar reups with Disney after all of the hubub it certainly would seem that Disney made giant gains from the reported terms Pixar was looking for (since it was Eisner who in effect closed the door by his unwillingness to 'give away the farm')... So in this case, even though Disney's take will undoubtedly be less (probably significantly less) than the original contract (and this is only right given the tremendous success of Pixar) it'd be a no brainer as to the appropriatness of the deal. Sadly, it WILL make Eisner look like a genius and if the deal is sweet in Disney's direction, I'd say he'll deserve the accolades...AND this will put an arrow in the heart of 'Save Disney.'

I like the idea of Disney making money by working with Pixar, BUT I want Disney to make Pixar quality movies themselves. If a reconcilliation becomes an excuse for ME not to pursue a 1st class CG division of their own, then I'm against the partnership.

Indeed. Disney may need that proverbial kick up the backside to get in gear.
