PITY, PARTY of TWO - Can you pass the Kleenex?

My deepest sympathies!!!!!!!!!!:(

I know what you are going through because 3 yrs ago we had to put our beloved Sampson to sleep. He was 5 yrs old and he had lymphnoma. I found out about it on a Thursday and I had to put him down under 24 hrs later.

He was my first born, my son, my protector (a large German Shepherd) and I mourned for him more than when my Grandfather passed away and I still mourn for him to this day. His ashes are on my shelf and his pictures are scattered around my house.

It is important to mourn for your dog. It is important to talk about your dog and how much you love him/her. Please tell us about your dog, what breed was he/her, and what made your dog special??? We would all love to read this.

Again, I am so sorry.

I'm so terribly sorry. Losing a loved one, 2 feet or 4 is awful.

Thanks gang. Your kind words and encouragement really help.

Here is a link to a photo of Sam from 2 December's ago.

He loved snow. He would dig for hours in the snow to find those few flakes you had make into a snowball for him. He was a mix of springer spaniel and retriever. He was so physically healthy up to this winter. He made it through Lyme disease and an injury he sustained when the Lyme disease made him feeble and he fell down the stairs. His ultimate downfall was his separation anxiety. He never recovered from our move to Ohio 6 yrs ago. He was a crated dog then and would almost hurt himself trying to get out. We worked with trainers and vets and meds. We moved back home and he came with us and became an outdoor dog because inside he would tear it up while we werent home.

He started to get worse and worse and soon this winter it became evident even staying between the warm garage and fenced yard was not enough for him. He was escaping and gracious neighbors would help us out by taking him in. In the end, we knew that he would either hurt himself or be hit by a car, and we did not want to come home and find him in that much pain. The trainers and vets had told us years ago that if the training and meds didnt work, he would have to be put down. Another home would not work as he would probably only be worse there because of the change and would not understand why we had left him. We too, were afraid that someone else would not be as patient as we had been and would neglect or harm him out of frustration....and believe me he could be frustrating. We had run out of options to keep him safe while we were not at home.

Basically, he loved us too much. He so wanted to be near us and hated being apart. He was such a good dog and so gentle with kids and adults. Our friends babies used to climb all over him and he wouldnt care. He would always look to me for the "cue" of what our mood of the day was. If I was giggling, great, he would want to play....if I was upset or tearful, he would watch me with pain in his eyes. As he watched us make this decision, he watched me carefully, judging my pain and that was horrible. But, his vet agreed with us that his was the best path for Sam. She was gentle with us and him and we praised him for all his good before we sent him to peace.

Your story brought tears to my eyes. I'm sure it was so hard to do. :(

{{{Hugs}}} I'm sorry. When we put our kitty of 16 years down last June I cried for weeks.

Sending a  out to you, poohbear.

I know it's hard to lose a pet, I had to have my precious kitty put to sleep just before Christmas (cancer - it had gotten into her spine and she couldn't control her bladder and she was having problems with her back legs) and it just hurt so much. I have a framed picture of her on the table. She was a sweet cat and she'll always have a special place in my heart.

Oh dear how sad:( {{Hugs}} It always hurts so much when we lose a pet.:(
