Pittsburgh hotels and questions

Can anyone recommend a hotel near the City Theatre on 13th Street in Pittsburgh? I would like to be as close to the Theatre as possible.

Also, how accessible is Pittsburgh if you don't have a car? Are there plenty of taxis around? How easy is it to get from the airport to the city?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. A friend of mine is going to be in a show at the City Theatre, and I want to surprise him by showing up at the theatre some night.

We stayed at a sheraton on across the river from downtown. Sorry I don't know enough about the city to help you. We walked mostly everywhere in town. The hotel gave us a map of the city and it really worked out well. Of course that was in June. Might be a bit colder to be walking the streets these days.

I live in Pittsburgh, PA. The City Theatre is actually in the SouthSide, which is not in the "city/downtown". There are not really hotels in Southside, just Bed&Breakfasts. I would suggest staying in town and taking a taxi over to SouthSide (which is across a river and not accessible by walking). I would suggest the Sheraton at Station Square. Station Square has plenty of restaurants and shops around it also.

As for the car issue - you will need a taxi to get back and forth from the hotel to the city theatre, the hotel can arrange one for you to go there and to pick you up after. Unfortunately Pittsburgh is not good for being able to just go out and hail a cab, you need to arrange for one.

As for getting from the airport to the city, well, that's the one place you'll have no problem getting a cab, they are everywhere!
