Rational minds arrived on weekend two. Pirates fell to a disappointing 3rd place.

this about sums up the truth...

disney has exploited a product for short term/ near sighted revenues and by doing so eroded its brand a little.

ironic for a company that lives off its brand and claims that it protects it at all costs.

but hey...the stock price has gone up for 2 years....so everybody's happy, right?
at least those that matter

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was not nearly as good as the original, which was great, but I would probably put it slightly ahead of #2 and well ahead of #4.

The fact is, there's only so much you can do in a pirate movie, and they've pretty much done it all, so parts of this movie felt like treading water...I enjoyed a few sequences (the one sequence with the Mermaids I thought was very well done) and actually pretty much whenever they put Barbarossa and Jack together in the same scene. It's funny how Geoffery Rush hams it up so badly in these movies, yet I still find him completely entertaining.

People complain a lot about Johhny Depp's Captain Jack getting tired as a character...but here's the thing...he was always a bit of a one-note character. It's just in the original it was so completely out of left field yet worked so perfectly was why it was considered so brilliant. (You can totally understand why the suits were thinking..."Um really?") What's left to surprise us with, not much.

Enjoyed both Blackbeard and Angelica, though I've never thought much of Penelope Cruz as an (english speaking) actress, she was tolerable in this.

I didn't miss Will and Elizabeth at all, though I thought the whole sub-plot with their replacements was undercooked (so much so I can't remember the characters names) and thought the non-resolution there was more annoying than anything.

Overall, I wasn't offended and I wasn't bored. I was entertained, and I wouldn't be upset if they made another one. Give it 3 stars (out of 5).

Saw it loved it! I would like to see it again. To be fair I do have a dog named Captain Jack...so I am a fan

On a side note Depp said he wanted it to be different from the first three and took more creative control for this movie.

I look forward to Pirates 5. Hey a girl can dream can't she?

I thought it was ok to be honest. I wanted to see more of Barbosa to be honest. I thought Cruz was good but the blackbeard role by McShane was rather dull. I was bored with him. I would like to see another one but I think they atleast have to have Orlando Bloom in it. I think they missed him more then Keira Knightley.

It's take is ranked 31st of all time. Sounds pretty mighty, the thirty above it aren't playing on many screens anymore. It will probably knock a hand full of them off.

OK - I really liked the Will and Elizabeth characters in the original movie, but found them more and more annoying with each of the next two. Their relationship just grated on me so much. Will loves Elizabeth, but not enough so that he won't ditch her to go to try and find his dead father. He does all these crazy things to try and save his father while he can barely talk to Elizabeth. (Oh wait, that one scene where her and Jack make eye contact - oh no Will thinks she likes Jack! UGH!) Meanwhile, Elizabeth suddenly becomes this swashbuckler pirate wench in 3 - when did she do all this training? I was so gald when they wrapped up their story lines at the end.

I like Jack's interaction with both Angelica and Barbosa, and even to a degree with Blackbeard, as well as Blackbeards crew...and I thought that it all worked well enough...again not as good as the original, but well enough that I didn't need Will or Elizabeth. Another good review and I actually agree with almost all of it.

As I said, I too thought it was time for the ridiculous love triangle (Will, Elizabeth and Jack) to meet its demise. It really wasn't very entertaining anymore. BUT after seeing 'four' I thought the comedic opp's were way down, so my opinion on their departure changed but I will qualify and state (and agree with you) that their roles in 'two' and 'three' were simply too much and although I think they needed to be in four, don't mistake that for a huge presence. A few well planned cameos (for the recurring humor) could have worked.

All in all it was entertaining but comparisons to #1 are just not reasonable and while it is entertaining it will never be considered a great movie.
