Pirates!

We saw it yesterday and loved it. The kids came home and grabbed their pirate gear and immediately started playing "Pirates". If you enjoyed the other POC movies, you should not be disappointed by this one. pirate:

Saw it Saturday in 3-D. Not as good as the first movie, but definitely better than 2 & 3. I always love Barbossa and enjoyed his storyline this time. Did miss some of the regulars from the other movies (Pintel & Ragetti). Didn't care for how a couple other regulars were used. But, enjoyed the film for sure and will see it again.

It was ok. Better than 3, probably better than 2, but not close to the brilliance of the first. I was actually a little bored at times and never felt much tension for the outcome, though the bit with the Spaniards in the end was a bit of a surprise.

And yes, people, there is a short tag scene after the credits like all of the others...

woah, peeps...

you can let your opinion be known without spoiling the milk....

Entertaining enough ... But not really a very good film. I'd give it a 6.0.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

I felt it was worth the price of admission.
I went in with low expectations so i was pleasantly surprised.

we saw it last Saturday. it definitely wasn't better than the first.

what i didn't miss:
--Will and Elizabeth. although, it's too bad that Orlando Bloom wouldn't do another. i don't care for Kiera Knightly, but he would've been fine. i think they could work his character into future movies, if he'd come back.

what i missed:
--Captain Jack's and Barbossa's bickering. i love when they go back and forth with each other and there wasn't enough of that.
--Pintel and Ragetti
--i didn't think that Captain Jack was as funny in this one.
--Cutler Beckett (the evil British guy from 2 and 3). i know he died in #3, but i really enjoyed his character in those movies.

i didn't think they developed the story of the mermaid and missionary enough. i wasn't drawn into their relationship enough to really care. i also wasn't thrilled with the tag at the very end. it was just okay. :confused3

i think that Blackbeard was a great villain. Ian McShane did a great job. and i'm glad it is one movie without needing another one to wrap up loose ends.

I'd have to check the tape...but i'm pretty sure being on an exploding ship implied that he was looking at significant time in a rehab facility following the credits:rotfl:

I liked it. is it great, no, but it was very funny at times.

Rational minds arrived on weekend two. Pirates fell to a disappointing 3rd place.

Agreed. This movie has dropped in my estimation as time has gone on, you know how after the fact movies can move up or down as you digest it over time - meaning I think even less of it now.

Don't get me wrong, I see how people can like it, I liked it. It was quite entertaining all the way through BUT I cannot see how it was loved or considered great by virtually anyone that saw #1.

One final thing, before the movie I was one that absolutely, positively felt it was time for the Ezizabeth and Will characters to be retired ... I was wrong. I see now they were such great comedy straight men to Depp's Captain Jack that they, from the comedy and on going gag aspect were missed dearly.

Pepelope Cruz was fine and would have fit well with the others, IMO but she had no comedic sense whatsoever.

Hey Peter Pirate!

The movie fell to 4th place last weekend......only $18 million.

How the mighty have fallen.

It's take is ranked 31st of all time. Sounds pretty mighty, the thirty above it aren't playing on many screens anymore. It will probably knock a hand full of them off.

POTC 2 and 3, like the vast majority of blockbuster sequels, had a considerable drop-off in receipts in the second and third weeks following the premiere. No surprise that POTC 4 pulled in much less this past weekend.

What is surprising is how quickly the latest release has achieved approx. $600 million internationally. I believe Disney was aggressive with the roll-out. But to have a global take of almost $800 million in 2.5 weeks is not too shabby.

I suspect the movie will end up generating around $900 million at the box office, a very nice ROI.

We saw it last night, and thought it was GREAT!! Is it Oscar worthy? Of course not! It was however very entertaining, had a decent story, and lots and lots of funny moments. Our entire theatre laughed throughout the movie, and clapped when it was over. Most of those we heard talking on the way out were commenting about how much they enjoyed it.

Our theatre was PACKED..not a seat left, and they were showing it on 3 screens. We saw just the regular 2D last night. Gonna see it again in IMAX 3D this Saturday with some more folks.

I didn't HATE Pirates 2 or 3, but they aren't ones I care to really see again and again. IMO, Pirates 4, while not as good as the first, is wayyy beyond the middle 2. I usually really like most movies that the "big" critics hate, so take that into consideration I suppose.:rotfl:

Definitely glad we went to see it, and looking forward to Saturday!

I agree 100%. It wasn't as good as the first, but it was a good movie. Every complaint the local critic had was why I liked it, and the only part he liked was the only part I hated. I wanted to leave for the first 10-15 minutes because it was a long pointless chase. Wow, we've never seen that before! Then it got good.

I really liked it. It could have been better but it was still really good. My only complaint is that I feel that some background information was missing, so the plot didn't always make perfect sense. Does anyone else agree?
