I could use some tips on playing the game to be able to improve. I seem to be pretty bad at it even when playing friendly. The other day I ventured out to play a game or two only to be creamed at level one. Your help is appreciated. :goodvibes

im not sure. but PRACTICE def helps. I sometimes play with a friend the first round sometimes against AI ( Computers ) to warm up. Otherwise, i would just practice on them.

Just a tip that helped me..
When I first started playing pirates I used the mouse to shoot.
It was terrible for me!
I now use the arrow keys to shoot, if you hit the arrow once the little green arrows show you where ou are going to shoot and if you hit it again it will shoot.
Makes my shots much more accurate :)
Hope this helps!

I would give you some tips... but...

I couldnt even shark Lily's row @_@

Here is a very valuable tip: Do not choose to be on my team...unless you like to lose. :rotfl2:

Using the keyboard is a good tip. I find that when I try to use the mouse to shoot, I go off course too easily and miss the shots.

BlueHairedMonkey's Pirate Tips:

1) Always click past your destination. In other words, if you are sailing away towards a treasure chest health item, do not click on the chest itself. Click ahead of it and rarely if ever let your ship stop moving. A moving target is harder to hit.

2) If you see a player that fails to follow my first tip, then aim and shoot at what you believe they are trying to go for. If they are going for a cannon ball at the top of the screen, position yourself to aim at those cannons and wait.

3) Don't be afraid to hide. In games where there are many players, don't always try to be the hero. Sometimes chilling out in a corner for a bit may actually help your team and keep you alive.

4) Level 3 players don't always play level 3. Most players will play any level that has a game already started, so just because you are on the level 1 map, doesn't mean you will have "easy pickins."

5) Use the keyboard to shoot. At the beginning of every game, I press my left arrow button and then my right arrow button just go get my brain adjusted to where cannon balls will be going. Using the mouse to shoot is most likely going to be a failing strategy.

6) Use the chat dialog and top of screen as a temporary hiding place. With heavy chatters, you can sometimes hide under the text boxes. On some levels you can also hide at the top of the screen and behind rocks.

7) Get used to all 3 ship types. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. A favorite for many beginners is to choose the Black Pearl, the fastest ship, so they can sail fast and escape. Unless you can effectively sail it without continually stopping and starting, I wouldn't suggest it because it has very low health capabilities.

8) Don't get upset if you lose a game. Losing is learning in my book. That's why I love to play against the best players.

9) Gold is not cheap. Use it. This is a game for credits. Don't feel bad or let other players discourage you from throwing some gold hugs around. It's in the game for a reason mateys.

10) Just because there is a gold cannon available on the screen, don't rush for it thinking you are going to be the hero. Good players will wait for others to sail towards the gold and then blast away at them before they are ever able to use the sweet sweet gold.

Hopefully you can use some of these tips. None of them are specific to Capture or Battle and can be used in both types of games. Good luck, and fear the BlueHairedMonkey...

Not that Im a good player by any means but if there are more than 4 players I hang back and let the most aggressive battle it out. I also hang back and let everyone fire all their ammo then i go in. Remember gold is not cheap, your a pirate and pirates never play fair. Use it and if there isnt any gold, throw apples. lol

Excellent tips!! :thumbsup2

My only advice is to keep practicing. Practice, practice, practice. Don't give up! When I first started playing pirates, I totally stunk at it, and my teammates were sure to let me know that :rotfl2: Grrrr... But I kept at it, and now I think I'm pretty good, if I'm not battling with lag :goodvibes

Play around with the three ships. At first I was afraid to use anything but the flying dutchman, but I've now learned the benefits of the other ships, and use all of them depending on game and level.

TAKE BREAKS!! Especially when you're starting out.... all those losses and name calling can really take a toll. There were many times I've had to walk away from my laptop before I threw it clear across the room or strangled somebody (hehe) pirate:

Something important to keep in mind is that capture the flag is for girls. Sometimes you will see guys in there playing but it's either because some girl asked them to play or they are otherwise wussified. I make no assumptions about the guys I see playing flag other than they would probably rather be playing battle. :thumbsup2

The ship battle strategy is easy, pump as many cannonballs into the opposing team as you possibly can. The last boat on the water wins. Realizing that ship battle was way more fun VMK made the credit payout higher for a game of flag. This has resulted in a phenomenon known as "Friendly Pirates," which is an oxymoron. :headache:

Girls get angry when you sink all the enemy boats in a game of flag. I'm still not entirely sure why it upsets them so much but then I don't really understand girls in general. :confused3

You know when people type in lol, but you just know they aren't actually laughing out loud? Well I did. Here is your LOL.

I commend you on your courage KrazyPete, rock on.

I'll have you know that Wussytastic Capture got THIS girl 22,000 Credits yesterday :thumbsup2
If you can't play with the big girls, get out of the water pirate:

Please don't feed the pigeons ;)

Seems to me like he's in the water more than he's out of the water (or is that on top of the water)

Make sure you all give a shout out to KrazyPete next time you see him once again enjoying himself in a Flag game pirate:

KrazyPete? I have two things to say:
1.) Everybody knows boys/men can not multi-task. Their brains are just not made for that. That being said, in battle all you have to do is run and shoot :teacher:....easy for male brain to comprehend :scratchin
In Capture, you have to run, shoot, get a flag, stay alive and make it back to base all the while keeping that flag on board :scared:. Way too much for male brains to comprehend, which is ok, we accept this of all of you and love you anyway :flower3:

2.)We get upset when you sink all the other teams ships in Capture, because we realize that when you do that a.) they might have their flag closer to their base...resulting in us losing the game b.) they might have more "gold in their vault"...resulting in us losing the game and c.) you get more points (credits) if you actually get their flag and get it to base...resulting in us winning the game and getting lots of the sweet sweet credits we all love so much ;o)

That all being said, a little advice:
I have to agree with Monkey and GirlyGirl, practice and get comfortable with all the ships...if you are comfortable with all of them, it won't be as horrible when the person starts the game before you get "your" ship. Since I know how each ship "handles" I only use the Wicked Wench when playing battle, and the Black Pearl when playing Capture. If I get stuck with the Flying Dutchman, it's ok, I know how it handles, and I change my strategy accordingly.
Hope this all helps :flower3:

I know a little bit about girl's minds work. You think that you've captured the cutest little scarf and you can't wait to get it home to find the perfect outfit to accessorize. But then some big mean boy who can't restain his natural born killer instincts single-handedly takes out the entire other team robbing you of your fashion moment. Grrr, Rawr and all that.

I would estimate that was about... 8 hours of:

"It's your turn to shoot me"
"No, I shot you last time"
"Oh yea! - giggles -"

Am I close?

Close! More like
"So what are you girls making for dinner?"
"I was thinking Chicken"
"Oh..it wasn't our turn to win was it?? SORRY DO OVER!!"

The reason I play capture is that even if you loose you get some credits.
In battle if your dead you usually get NADA!

Plus who cares how I did it...I got 22 grand in one day!!
