Pirates take Alaska 7-14-14!

Hi! My name is Dani and I should be on this cruise with my VERY new hubby T. We're getting married on the 7/7 sailing and just booked ourselves onto this one as a week of rest and recovery after the chaos (and FUN) of cruising and getting married with friends and family along the week before. Fingers crossed we don't end up having to cancel and use the deposit towards some other wedding expense!

We live in Victoria and I used to live in Vancouver until last May, so I'm happy to try and answer any questions about logistics and the area. I went to Alaska on HAL in 2004, but will be T's first/second cruise and first time to Alaska. We're all so excited!

And I definitely want to do the FE--HAL and NCLA's PAX don't do anything fun like that :)

Dani

That is VERY exciting!! Congrats on the upcoming wedding. Hope you can make it!

Hello... My family and I will be on this cruise also. We have a total of 4 cabins. We are so excited. This will be our 4th Disney Cruise!! We would love to join the FE Exchange when someone starts a list.

Thanks,
Mercy

Welcome aboard to you and your family!

There has definitely been talk of the FE exchange already.

Hi! In May 2014, are you doing the 2 day San Diego Weekend Cruise??? I saw you had May '14 listed. We are doing the weekend cruise before we do Alaska. We come from SUNNY LAS VEGAS, NV!!!:sunny:

Yes we are - we did the first one in 2011 and are looking forward to this one. We live in the Los Angeles area.

Trying to talk another family into joining us. They've never cruised before but I know they'd fit in with us all quite well. They're a bit wacko too! :joker:

I hope they join in the fun!

Welcome and conratulations! We renewed our vows onboard the Magic in 2008 and had a great time!

Welcome! By the time this cruise gets here - it will be my 14th DCL cruise. We are doing the Fantasy for the first time this coming December. There will definitely be a FE exchange.

Putting down how many DCL cruises I have taken got me to thinking about how many cruises I have taken overall. I think I am in the upper 30's - that's a lot of days at sea. But I love them all. :lovestruc

My DD and I are leaving in just over 2 weeks on a Princess cruise as I have never been on that line and need to for personal reasons. I am looking forward to seeing how it is. And of course - you can't beat going on a cruise for any reason :rotfl2:

Welcome! :wave2:

Popping by! Welcome to our new friends who have climbed aboard! I like that our list is starting to grow!

Just stopping by to create fluff...

Busy week for us...our area's Pet Expo is this weekend and i have 7 puppies going for the adoption event.

Tori has state testing the next two days and I have 7 days to figure out what I am packing for my cruise. Feels so weird to not have to worry about FE gifts and door magnets. :worship: I guess it's a good thing since I have no time lately.

Have a great weekend!

I can't remember how long this lasts but all of us still feel like we are on the ship. We definitely had some movement. There were a few times we ran into people (literally) from the roll of the ship.
I was in heaven and only wished there was a LOT more movement to the ship. I am pretty sure I would be just fine in a hurricane (OK, maybe not).
There was this part of our last Alaska cruise where you briefly had to go into open ocean and it was the most movement I have ever felt so I am keeping my fingers crossed we rock n' roll on this one.

Just booked OBB while sailing last week. Looking forward to this! DH, DW, DD 11, DD 8, and DH's mom.

Fantasy Western Caribbean. Had a blast!

Any guidance on planning for Alaska? Vancouver vs. Seattle, hotels, transfers, Disney air or own arrangements, etc?

A few of us have been to Alaska but I am not sure of any on DCL so all/most of us are in similar shape.
What we have semi-narrowed down is to fly into Seattle and take the train to Vancouver. I think there is a group talking about staying at the Pan Pacific at the port in Vancouver. Last time I was there, we just flew straight from Dallas to Vancouver the day of the cruise :lmao:. I obviously did not know any better back then. It was fine and I was ignorant, but not doing that again.
Weather can be all over the place but I never needed truly bundle up. I am not sensitive to heat or cold so others may have felt it more. I have pictures of my DD's hanging out in their non-winter pajamas on the balcony very late at night and they were not cold.
I always book my own air and now go in a day early. If you were flying in embarktion day, I would choose DCL air. We were on the Magic last week and we were delayed leaving by 2 hours because we were waiting for 1 person; my suspicion is he had DCL air.

my husband wants to book a fresh water fly fishing trip. Disney doe not offer trip. He found a 4 person guided trip looking for 2 others to share. anyone interested?

What do you see as benefits of flying to Seattle instead of Vancouver?

First, WELCOME! Can answer your question in one word "Price" . Pretty much all of us have found that it'll be cheaper for us to fly into Seattle and take the train in. You could take a bus in but the customs check point can take quite a bit of time from what I understand.
