Pirates returning with Fastpass and Maxpass

Of course it is. I can be ok with that, but dang, they need to stop there and not make WDW's mistake of adding it to everything.

I wonder what other rides will start getting fast pass/max pass? Maybe Peter Pan?

I had initially heard they were going to be making Pirates a Maxpass exclusive, with no paper fastpass, to encourage more people to get it. Looks like they changed their mind on that approach. Probably would cause too much confusion to those who don't do a lot of research before their trips.

Hmm. Where will the FP enter? They need to have both sides open for the standby queue or it will still spill into the walkway (probably will anyway).

I’m guessing that the FPs may enter up by Tarzan's exit. They have queue back there that they haven’t been using for a bit.

Can someone please explain to me why getting more Fastpass rides is a bad thing?

My initial thought is that, as long as they don't start limiting the number of Fastpasses you can get beyond current rules (FP+, or otherwise), it is a good thing (at least for FP users).

However, I have read enough comments from people that think more FP is a bad idea, to realize that there must be something I'm missing.

It can sometimes make the standby lines worse on rides that have a high capacity.

FWIW, POTC had FP back when FP was first introduced. I remember getting them in 2003. Eventually Disney decided POTC did not need them. I am guessing that bringing full time FP to HM and now POTC is part of making MP more appealing.

I am trying to remember where the FP machines were located. I seem to remember they were under the bridge but before you go up the ramp at the right or left. There was a central walkway between left and right queues where you could walk through and get them. If I recall.

At WDW they have added FP to all rides as part of the FP+ program. They do not have paper FPs anymore. Many have concluded that it has made for long lines on rides that did not used to have long lines. Understanding the reasons for this is actually a bit complicated. It seems Disney might be using FP+ advance reservations to change staffing at rides and balance guest which would make for longer lines. But more because Disney is causing it.

MP/FP at DLR could not do this because all MP/FP are given on the same day - not 30-60 days in advance like a WDW. But there is still the belief by some that FP makes lines longer not shorter. I have never bought that line of thought but it is out there.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I am guessing it will enter to the top of the left winding pathway. Possibly the winding part will become obsolete. Then the entire ground floor will be winding back and forth for the left side.
This is my guess of entrance for FP.

Shanghai Disneyland has a somewhat different approach to making money from Fastpass:
There are 7 fastpass attractions, scan ticket at machine and scan ticket again at entrance (just like DL).
Fastpasses can also be booked on the app (like Maxpass), but the feature is free.
Fastpasses (use anytime) can be purchased on the app (individual attractions or a set).
Fastpasses for Pirates in Shanghai (8th FP attraction) can only be purchased.

Maxpass seems to be popular, so I expect more FP attractions to be added.
MP only attractions seems like a logical next step.

Heard about this yesterday on Facebook. I’m fine with it, but I feel like Pirates doesn’t necessarily need fast passes because I feel like the line goes pretty fast since so many people can fit on a boat.
With that being said, I will probably use max passes for this ride if it’s available. Less waiting the better, right? Lol

Here's the problem with Shanghai FPs (I was there about six weeks ago): they run out of them for all rides by around noon (guests hoard and then scalp them). You can buy individual FPs for around $15 US or a block of seven (for all rides that offer them) for $110... twice as much as it costs to get into the park. Shanghai DL was my least favorite of all the parks (I've been to them all). This was only one of the reasons why. Their single-rider lines are scarcely better than their standby lines. People pushing, line-cutting and smoking also detract from the overall quality/enjoyability of the park. I wouldn't go back even for free.

Most days I think it is not bad. The problems start when it starts winding back down toward Haunted Mansion. The POTC line winds up the seating steps for fantasmic then back across the bridge. When it's at this point it can be well over an hour before you even get under the bridge.
