Okay, please don't laugh, but I've heard there are 2 drops in this ride in DL...Being the "chicken" I am, I have to psyche myself up to ride the one in DW....Once over that hill, I'm fine...now what's going on at the one in DL - and where is the 2nd drop....? Thanks!

Oh, it's a very little drop - shortly after the first little drop. You don't have to worry about these drops - remember you don't get strapped into the seat!

I'd say the two average out to about the one at WDW -- one is longer, the other is shorter. I *think* the first drop is the longer, but I can't remember at the moment (gasp! Means I need to visit DL again!)

As I recall, both drops are in the cavernous pre-show area, so once you start seeing the "living" pirates, you're done. Of course, knowing there are only two drops, you'll know once you go down the second drop that you're done, too ;)

IMHO, DL's pirates is VERY much worth both drops, even if you're nervous about them. WDW's Pirates is fun, but DL's Pirates is much better IMHO. Give it a try, and don't worry -- even the drop that is worse than at WDW isn't much worse. It's maybe one boat length longer, if that.

Thought I was the only one who is reluctant to go on Pirates because of the drop(s)...;)

The first drop really is steeper that the one at WDW, I am not sure about lenght but it really does feel like a drop as compared to the one at WDW. The 2nd one, as already stated isn't nearly as bad but it is still a drop, you can see it coming too...

As a tip from someone who isn't too fond of any water drop, I would advise to sit near the front or center. Maybe not the very front because of the splash and having to actually see the drop in front of you but just do not sit in the back...it's the worst!

Have fun and don't miss the ride because of the drops, they do last just a second and DL's version is fantastic with the view of the Blue Bayou restaurant and all, not to be missed!

I have severe motion sickness and this ride doesn't bother me at all. The first drop is about 15 to 20 feet and not very steep at all. The second drop is more of a little slide than a drop.

Now, Splash Mountain I can't go on at all! Please don't let this small drop on Pirates stop you from enjoying the ride.

I posted this before and it disappeared! (Now THAT would make sense if it was about Haunted Mansion! ;) But I have read rumors New Orleans Sq is haunted! That must have to do with the disappearing post! hehehe
Anyway, info form 1997 ~

Thanks for the specs Luv2Roam! I knew the 1st or 2nd drop for that matter wasn't 15 to 20 feet...a 21 degree angle doesn't seem that bad either, but compared to WDW it is steeper!

I'm terribly prone to motion sickness and I don't even consider the drops at POC to be of any concern. There is barely a splash and the boats don't even seem to be on a free fall, they hardly pick up any speed. If you are on the front seat though, water may splash over the sides into your seat, so beware of a wet behind! It's a very controlled drop, not even a comparison to Splash Mountain. Everyone should be sure and ride POC at DL. If you are at all familiar with the POC at WDW, you will be so amazed at how much more detail there is at DL and how much longer the ride is. It's amazing.

I, too, hate any ride with big drops. I won't even go on Splash Mountain. Pirates, however, does not bother me. As the previous poster stated, they don't even strap you in. Both drops are at the beginning of the ride right after you pass the Blue Bayou restaurant. They are one right after the other. Look for the talking pirate after you pass the Blue Bayou and the first drop is righ there. We just returned from DL last week and we rode it 3 times. I also love WDW but Pirates at DL is much better, IMHO. As the others have said, don't miss it because of the drops.
