Pirates of the Carribean closing...

Actually, I agree that normally attractions should not become movies. PoC surprised me. I am definitely a major fan of the actor who played a goofy pirate in the film but I know that he couldn't carry a movie like this all by himself. Maybe only 75% of it. ;) The movie was actually a lot of fun, kind of like a good theme park ride in fact, and I'm trying to be hopeful about The Haunted Mansion movie. Hey, maybe Disney finally found its best niche in movies.

exDS vet, I like the Winnie the Pooh ride. I can understand your frustration loosing Mr. Toads Wild Ride, but from what I can understand, they picked a spot that needed to be updated, and since Mr. Toad is not in the current marketing structure, and Pooh Bear is a big part of it...

Hey, I loved the Lion King show, but I look forward to Philharmagic!!!!

Of course lets not bring up JIYI at EPCOT (Figments 3 revisions)

I think some of the closings are a mistake, I think that they tried to close COP and enough people yelled so it became seasonal. I think in 5 years it will be gone (JMHO)

I drift off topic, I will be in DL next month to judge for myself about the difference in POTC

:bounce:

They won't close POTC for good. No way. And another vote for the DL one being a masterpiece.

1) I don't think PoC will close.
2) DL's is better.
3) Update AA with one of Orlando Bloom? That'd be a "yes" (or make that a "yum") from me! hehehehe

Any ideas when WDW is planning on working on PoC? We are going the end of Janaury/first week of February. I hope it isn't when we are going (but I'm sure that is what everyone says - never a good time to take it down).

I said over a year ago that I did not support Disney turning their park attractions into movies. That was when they released the flop known as "The Country Bears." I vowed to never see one of these films. As I continued my protest this summer, I see that the PoC movie was a hit. I'm sure that the HM movie will be as well. Nobody turns treasures into trash quite like Disney. I'm waiting for a movie based on the DL parking structure.

I never saw The Country Bears because the trailers didn't do a thing for me and make me want to see it.

Now if you want to be a stall wart and not see the POC movie go ahead, but you're missing a GREAT movie. We've seen it twice and will get the DVD when it comes out. I have the sound track CD which is excellent as well.

I've heard of many people seeing the POC movie and didn't even know it was based on a WDW ride.

I don't think the HM movie will be anywhere near as big a hit as the POC movie. We will go see it though.

I wouldn't make a 'blanket' protest like that - Country Bears was disappointing and kind of silly to do, but Pirates was fantastic!! We've seen it twice, will buy the DVD, and may see it again in the theaters before it closes! I would really urge you to check it out.

Jan/Feb is another time you're likely to hear "rumors" of closings--only to find the small grain of truth is they're closed...but for rehab.

Long Live POC !!

Do you really think it will be closed in Feb. The main reason my boyfriend and I are going is to go on PoTC. I'll be beyond dissapointed if I get there and it's shut down.

Can anyone calm my nerves?

EsmeraldaX, DW and I are going to DL in a few weeks, and when we get there Small World, Space Mountain and a few other attractions will be closed. It is part of it, and we learn to live with the concept that there are lets of other things to do. I am just upset because I hear that Small World is better at DL than WDW and it may be a very long time before we get back to CA!

I know it's part of it *sigh*.

I just wish that Disney could give, say, a years advance notice on re-furbs. I'd be more than willing to plan my trip around their refurb schedule since money is tight, and I don't know when the next trip will be.

thanks for making me snarf my soda!

disney parking is its own soap opera. i thank them, however, for (probably) inventing the parking mnemonic--the way they give you a way to memorize your parking spot, now seen in all mega-malls. it's their saving grace!

anyway, i have a soft spot for mk's poc. maybe it's because i went through that one first. by the time i hit dl's version in college i just felt it was a bit blah... i'm going back to dl in a couple of years, so we'll see...

I absolutely love PoC and we actually had a special treat in April when a very nice CM let us on the ride through a back door and then gave us our own boat. The CM did this for us b/c she saw us with a 1 1/2 year old DS who probably wouldn't have been able to wait in the long line. However, the whole purpose was defeated b/c the ride came to a standstill for about 5-7 minutes. It was horrible! That standstill has happend to me before on that ride. That would be my only suggestion...to take care of that problem first.
