Hey y'all,

I have a question concerning Pirates of the Caribbean. Actually, it's to settle a debate my mom and I are having. At the beginning of the ride, a skull-and-crossbones tells you something before you careen down onto the ride course.

My mom says that it tells you that "dead men tell no tales..."

I say that it tells you that "dead men tell terrible things...things..."

We had taken some video footage of the ride, but we already erased it because the video quality wasn't good enough to keep.

Who is right?

Your mother is right...... He say's Deadmen tells no tales (it echoes out so says tales a few times). Beth

on the Official WDW Album CD, after listening to it countless times, i swear it says that "dead me tell terrible things...things..." Also, when we DID have the footage on tape, I swear it said the same thing. That was back in June 2002. When and why did it change?

I swear by the life of my precious kitty that it is "dead men tell no tales" and has been for the last 22 years to my personal knowledge.

And I think it is the same recording that is used at Disneyland, that has always been "Dead men tell no tales...."

"Roger" is his name. He does say "Dead Men Tell No Tales, but he's not the voice that echos.

Ghost voice :Dead Men Tell No Tales-tales-tales...

Roger: Avast ye lubbers, There be squalls ahead. Man the tiller and keep yer ruddy hands inboard. Dead me tell Nooooo tales.
Ahoy mates, there be rough waters ahead. Mind the mizzen mast and hang on tight. Dead men tell Nooooo Tales, etc.

My DS thought it said, "Dead men tell no fiddle faddle" - I don't know where in the world he got that! LOL

"Avast ye lubbers, There be squalls ahead"

When my DD7 heard that the first time, her head whipped around and she asked, "Mama, what's a squall???" with a small look of terror. :p

But she was fine and very much enjoyed the ride.

**I know this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but thought I would share before I forgot about it.**

Nellas,

For an exhausive history of POTC (Disney Land), look at tellnotales.com. Also some great sound downloads featuring Dead men tale no tales

I did hear of one variation:

"Dead men used to be Brazilian tourists and cheerleaders cutting in lines"

We were on our way out of the park during an e-ticket night, and decided to go on Pirates. The ride stopped pretty close to the speaker, and I can guarantee you that it is 'dead men tell no tales'. At least we weren't stuck on Small World.

;)

;) ;) If you play it backwards it says "Paul is dead". ;) ;)

My fiance thought it said "Death and peril await." We still pick on him about it. He was embarassed when he found out that it says "Dead men tell no tales" because it is his favorite ride.

Paul is dead -- Paul Frees, that is. He did a lot of the voices in Pirates (including this one), and he's the Ghost Host at the Haunted Mansion as well. Frees also did a lot of cartoon voices. He even did the voices of John and George in the Beatles cartoons.
