I was watching the POTC special features today and I noticed something about the Disneyland ride.. It's 10x better than the WDW one!! I know it was the original and stuff, but I just think they should make the WDW one a little better.. Just saying.. :)

Can you spell out some of the differences you like at DRL over WDW?

The only difference that comes to mind is the drop. DL has a good size drop that starts your adventure off and WDW's doesn't compare to that thrill. Other than that everything else is about the same. The ride does seem longer also. I always feel that something is missing though each time I ride the WDW POTC ride. Anyone else experience this?

DL's seems much longer than WDW's to me. In addition to missing the second drop, WDW also doesn't have a Blue Bayou and the whole front porch scene.

Our family thinks the POTC at DLR is way better than the one at WDW. FOr starters, you start off high up (2nd floor) of a building. You go through the Blue Bayou area -- a huge Southern swampy area with crickets, fireflies, swamp homes and banjos playing. There is a riverside "mansion" on one side and they are having a dinner party out on the patio under colored lanterns. That is actually the Blue Bayou Restaurant and you can really eat there. It is so cool!

Then you go down one big (but not huge) slide and are warned about pirates lurking ahead. Then there is another slide (a little smaller, more like the one at WDW) and you can see and hear the pirates.

The way you enter just sets the stage so much better. There are also more rooms, bigger areas and the whole "burning town/burning ship" thing that the boats go under in DLR. Then you get to ride the boat back up to the beginning.

We are always happy to see the pirates in WDW, but also a little disappointed in the experience.

WDW has a better Splash Mountain, however. I think it just makes things interesting at both parks that there are these differences.

After going to DL last Dec I have to day that I like POTC much better there than at WDW. Yes it seems longer and makes more sense...I am not sure how to explain this. I also thought DL did HM and IASW at Christmas awesome! I would fly back to CA just to see this. :teeth: I still can't even believe how awesome they were.

As much as I hate to admit it I have to agree that the ride at DL is the better of the two.

The WDW ride is incredible without a doubt but DL's is just way bigger, it has a far greater feeling of space and it has a number of the "little" touches that WDW doesn't have. The main features are almost identical but it is those little extra touches at DL that make it better.

That is a big thing for me to admit as I vastly prefer WDW.
;) Maybe because my in-laws live in CA and any DL trip requires a family visit. ;)

I have been on both POTCs and the one in DL is better. It is longer, has another drop and a great building (there is a restaurant in the same building so it smells wonderful). I would love for Disney to bring the one from DL to WDW.

you know, I went to DL when I was 11 (I am 32 now) and that is the only time I have been there..I forgot so many things about POTC that this thread, for some reason brought up! Let's just hope that the new renovations will bring it up to snuff, or at least better....but hey, anything with Captain Jack Sparrow has GOT to be great....right? Yum!

Well now I need to plan a trip to Disneyland!!! Actually, I just needed a good excuse for a trip there!!

One of the reasons for the bigger drop was that the Imagineers had to build POC in DL UNDER a parking lot! It was such a surprise in the beginning because the "lift hill" is at the end of the ride. Am I the only old timer who wishes the pirates still chased the women until the last scene when the "zoftig" woman chased the pirate? I love POC at DL. And Christmas IASW at DL almost makes sense to me!

No, you're not. You can thank the new age of being politically correct for this. Ridiculous!!! :rolleyes2

Oh Yeah, Pirates of the Carribean (sp) is MUCH better at DISNEYLAND! some of the big differences are in the beginning of the line at WDW you go through this HUGE Q before you actually get to the boats, there is one drop where as DISNEYLAND has TWO. The burning timbers are gone from the WDW ride and correct me if I'm wrong but at the end of the WDW ride they have this scene where there is a guy and girl tied up in a chair on top of a pile of jewels? at least that's what it was back in 2003.
There are however REASONS for WDW to have only one drop as the water table in that area is very high and the utilidoors might have trouble. Also in the beginning of the ride where you go through the long Q...I think it's to get everyone out of the sun.
EITHER WAY, PIRATES is still my FAVORITE RIDE!

It's a weird coincidence <sp?> that my parent's just anounced we were going to Disneyland as soon as school's out! The world's a twisted place. :thumbsup2

Will we've never been on the one at DL, but the PoTC at DLP is far better then the one one at WDW IMO.

Too True!!! I hate the way they changed it. It was so much better before Mrs. Clinton got her way about being politically correct!! I wish they would put it back to the original.

And I TOTALLY agree that DL PoC is way better than WDW's. 1/2 the time when we go into WDW's it is either too dark or too bright. It is like they can't get the lighting right.

Yep, POTC @ DL is way better. It seems to me that the version @ WDW just ends, like they just forgot to finish the ride. I'm heading to DL, taking my dd for her first trip. She won't remember, but my wife and I sure will :)

My favorite part of the DL POTC is the silouette fighting scene that is going on in one of the ships. I always miss that when I am on WDW POTC. It's a great touch to the ride and I can't understand why they would not put it in the WDW ride.

I agree that the end of the WDW POTC does seem to end abrubtly. I always feel like something is missing when I ride it.

I love the swamp scene and the Blue Bayou too.

Funny thing is, when I am at WDW I miss DL and when I am at DL I miss WDW. :) I'll just have to keep going to both!
