Hi all!

I am taking my son to Disneyland for his 10th birthday. He LOVES Pirates of the Caribbean. I realize it's closed right now but scheduled to *hopefully* reopen in March? We are headed to DL in April. I am wondering 1) what the chances are that it will in fact be reopened at the end of April. 2) While it is closed, is Jack Sparrow not around in the park for photo ops or character dining? 3) My daughter said Jack Sparrow is revealed sitting at the end of the Pirate's ride. She was last in DL 9 years ago so want to confirm - is this true?

Is there anyone else "Pirates of the Caribbean" related that are do not miss items/souvenirs/experiences/events.

Thanks in advance :)
Love this forum!
My tip sheet and planner list is miles long already! haha

There are 3 animatronic Jacks on POTC. There is no live Jack. I believe he was last around before budget cuts in 2011 or 12. He had been moved to TSI, which is closed now anyway.

Yes, Jack is sitting at the end of the ride, right as the boat starts up the ramp. and at 2 other places....be on the lookout!

Jack hasn't been around in years. If you want to meet Jack, go on a Disney cruise that goes to Castaway Cay.

There and elsewhere. If you have the POTC movies, watch the special features. First movie shows a ride-through of the classic ride; second movie shows a ride-through of the Sparrow'd ride, if anyone would like to verify before your trip.

Pirates marks its 50th anniversary on March 18, so I fully expect that it'll be open at least by then (and hopefully earlier).

I think you have to go during Halloween time to meet Jack Sparrow. He is usually out during the Halloween parties.

Thank you all for your responses! I am sad that the live Jack Sparrow won't be there.

Anything else "Pirates" related? We have dinner reservations for the Pirates Dinner.

May I ask what the Pirate Dinner is? I have never heard of this.
For some Pirates merchandise there is a shop in New Orleans Square you could browse (I am assuming this has not changed since 2014!)
Have a magical time!

Yep.

There is no way DL is skipping a chance to sell a lot of POTC 50th branded merchandise/artwork.

We're there end of April and I would be SHOCKED if it wasn't up. I have almost zero worries and it's my favorite ride :)

There are a lot of pirates themed merch in a little shop right by the ride. It's our favorite shop too!

I've never seen live jack, but there are definitely Jacks in the ride. You won't miss them!

It's a dinner show in Buena Park.

And I would bet that it's closed now specifically to spruce it up *for* the anniversary.
I think with the scheduled reopening date being what it is, you are 100% right.

We'll be in the parks from the 3/17-3/19 and are super excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of our favorite rides.

At the park now. Asked a CM earlier when Pirates would open again. She told me March 16.

Thanks to everyone for their responses and tips on merch stores!

Yes - Pirates Dinner is dinner theatre. I bought our passes through groupon for the night we get to Anaheim. I couldn't say no at the price. It was around $60 for 2 of us.

This is what the touringplans website is reporting, too. I also just posted a question here about how accurate that date would be, since I'll be there that day, and maybe the next. And how busy it will be...yikes!

Yes, I saw, Jack S. in the parks ~2007 but I heard they pulled him because women would get a little inappropriate when he wandered around. He is in a show in WDW.

Now I am wondering is Jack Sparrow might make a "come-back" for the anniversary!
I guess I will have to wait and see what March travelers say! :)
