Now that Tom Swayers island has changed to the Pirates lair is there anything special to do or find along the same lines as finding the paint brushes. Or was that just a WDW thing?

I don't know what finding the paint brushes means but in the main cave they have several pirate surprises. There is also a large pile of treasure you take your picture by and you can see Will Turner's blacksmith shop. Oh, and a bone cage. I liked it. :)

I can't remember everything..but yes there were a lot of surprises. If you see a treasure...REACH for it.... :) Bumbershoot has a great video about a surprise if I remember correctly.

No, I don't believe DL's TSI ever did the paintbrush thing. :(

Thanks for the map, thats really neat. Do you get those on the docks?

I couldn't remember if both DL and WDW did the paint brushes or just WDW. We are going in a few weeks with my sister and her family and I want to make sure they get the full experience. Her husband and three boys have never been to either park, (a travesty:scared1: , I know), So I am just getting all my ducks in a row, trying to remember all my little secrets without getting them mixed up as to which park they are from. :rotfl:

At TSI in WDW each morning a few paint brushes "Tom" had used for whitewashing the fence are hidden around the island. If you are lucky enough to find one you bring it to a cast member and get a fastpass for your whole party to Splash or Big Thunder. It is just a fun little treasure hunt thing for the kids to do while you are playing on the island.

No paint brush game, but we did have Tom and Huck for a while

and don't forget the really cool Dyson hand dryers in the bathrooms....:lmao:

There are several surprises if you turn wheels or pull on ropes. Also there is the pirates' treasure to find on the island. I'll have to ask my niece. She went on the island two days in a row to look for treasure and on the second day met Jack Sparrow:cool1: Of course, this was last year when it was soooo hot.

Pirate's Lair was added in '07, and in the summer of '07 they were giving out the Pirate's Lair maps. I think the maps were handed out on the rafts going to the island, but I don't know if they still do this or not.

HTH :goodvibes

From the sounds of it, it really is a pirate's lair. I can't wait to check it out.

I remember being told you had to ask for a map. Last year we asked we were told they were out. The guy driving our raft over was the "one rude" CM I had ever met at DL. The raft broke down and we were stranded on the island for about 25 minutes longer than we wanted to be there. It was soooo hot and miserable.

Theres a cave you can walk through that has some neat stuff in it, when you come across davey jones's chest, be sure to touch it! :yay:

When were Tom and Huck on the island? I remember seeing a Tom Sawyer sketch before the start of Fantasmic when it was brand new (it may have been an AP Preview that I saw).

Yeah, sorry, like everyone else has said, there are no paintbrushes (although it would be really cool if they had "x marks the spot" pirate maps or pirate flags that people could find).

As far as I know, they have stopped passing out maps (maybe it's because I never got over to the island before noon). No live entertainment or characters (loved the streetmosphere pirates and wish they weren't axed), but plenty of stuff to poke around in.

I hope that Capt. Jack returns, I had seen him at times, but not close enough to interact with.
American Girl, I like your idea! ...........

I'm even more excited about this Pirates Lair thing now. I had no clue it existed. I havn't been to DLR since 2005 and this will be DS3 first time!! He himself will tell you he IS Captain Jack Sparrow :lmao: Ever since I dressed him up as Captain Jack for Halloween he believes it. He believes it so much, 2 weeks ago we got a new puppy [Boston Terrier, OMG so cute!!] and he sat him on the edge of the stairs upstairs and told him to walk the plank :confused3 But back to topic, anyone heard if Captain Jack will ever come around again?! And why did they take him away to begin with?!

I was really impressed with the changes to the island when we went back in 07. Really brought out the fun aspect again. We got one of the maps as well when Capt Jack took a bunch of kids on a treasure hunt on the island for the pile of gold. pirate:
