As of last week, Medieval Times will be my favorite dinner show of all time. We were in the Disney area for a week at our timeshare, and we decided to go to Medieval Times near the end of a busy itinerary. It had been a long day, and I was beginning to second guess the decision to try to go to a show that starts at 8:30 p.m. with my four year old daughter and her two tired grandmothers. (My wife stayed back at the resort with our infant.)
Anyway, we got there and there's a big anteroom where they try to make you buy drinks and souvenirs before they let you into the main arena/dining room. There's a knight who comes out and solicits a yelling contest to see which room sections get seated first. (It's all fixed, of course, because the room has to be seated from furthest seats to nearest . . . ) Anyway, there's a lot of young boisterous people there having a good time, but it was awfully loud for the grandmas, and I really thought the night was going to be a dud.
But once we got in and seated and the show got rolling, things began to improve. First of all, the food is a lot better than it used to be. (I love the no utensils medieval style of eating.) The huge chicken portion was crispy on the outside and moist within, the soup was decent, and I especially liked the ribs -- very tasty and tender.
Anyway, the show's premise is that there's a competition to the "death" among six knights, and each section has their designated knight to root for. We got the "black and white" knight, who acquitted himself quite well before some dastardly acts that I won't describe in detail so as not to spoil it for you.
Anyway, my mother and mother in law got so "into" the competition, they almost got us thrown out of there. Put those youngsters all around us to shame. My daughter was absolutely mesmerized, and got to have her picture taken with the King and the Princess as a bonus.
Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Medieval Times if you want to get a little rowdy in the evening. It has a ball-game type of atmosphere that's really a lot of fun, and those clashing swords, jousting, and equestrian stuff are pretty entertaining. Good special effects too: fog, lights, etc.
One final note. At one point they bring out a Falcon who is let loose to fly around the arena. It does numerous figure eights, and if you're sitting in the red section, be careful. That bird is literally flying just inches over your head at what seems like 100 miles an hour. Really awesome to watch.
