Pirates and Pals or Galactic Desert party?

Can anyone tell me the key pros, cons and differences of these two events?

We can only really afford to do one on our upcoming trip. Our 8 year old wants to do Star Wars and the 4 year old wants to do Pirates. Any insight would be great as we haven't experienced either yet. Thanks

We've done both and they are very different experiences. I would say, as an overall event, Pirates and Pals is better. When we did it, they gave us a little scavenger hunt to do when we checked in, the dessert buffet was ENORMOUS, Smee and Hook visited and then we went on the boat. Our captain played games with us, we saw the fireworks and then met Peter Pan at the end of the boat ride (the captain also gave the kids small gifts if I recall). It was a really fun, unique evening.

We just did the Star Wars party in December and it was fine. I did it mostly so my DH could get a good view of the show without waiting in a spot for too long. The party itself is kind of cramped into Star Wars Launch Bay (it's in an area near the character meet and greets). The desserts were good, but nothing spectacular. There is no seating at the party (just tables), so after awhile, people started sitting on the stairs and the floor. There are no meet and greets (though you are free to stand in line for Chewy and Kylo along with the rest of the WDW guests) though the Stormtroopers walk through very briefly and then escort you to the show area. The viewing area wasn't crowded (this was on Dec. 19, 2017, It's in the raised platform area where Mickey's Sorcerer's Hat used to be.) and DH was able to sit on a brick wall at the back of the viewing area which was nice (we sat the entire time). My only complaint is that we were quite close to the show so while we could see, the sound was REALLY loud and distorted at times. We also couldn't see one special effect at the end. The whole experience was OK, but nothing I would do again. I will say, though, with smaller children, you may have difficulty finding a spot in general viewing where they can see. Personally, if I were making this choice, I would do Pirates and Pals and then solicit some advice on best Star Wars viewing areas for smaller people without doing the party.

Having been at the various ticketed dessert parties hundreds and hundreds of times and also being completely objective, I agree with the previous poster's review, P&P would be a better choice for you. If the kids were older and also SW fans, of the two choices I'd go with the SW party.

I think that these are very different experiences...

Would mom/dad enjoy the adult beverages? How do you feel about staking out a spot for the SW Show?

If SW is a must see and you would enjoy the adult beverages - the SW Desert party might carry more weight for you.

The lack of seating in launch bay is definitely a detractor but there are some benches there that you can claim and we used the time to tour launch bay and enjoy an almost no wait chewy line (most Star Wars fans are waiting outside for the show so they aren't in line for characters).

Unfortunately the benches inside the party area have been removed since you attended. The only benches are those scattered outside the actual party area.

Overall waits have increased since BB8 arrived, still not too bad though. I've seen 30 minute wait times for BB8 during the party.

After further discussions with the 4 year old he had now decided he would rather do the star wars thing than pirates. I am a bit disappointed to be honest. I was looking forward to the pirate thing and was even going to do Pirates league before to get them looking the part.

Oh well, it's about them not me I guess. Lol.

Maybe we can do the pirate thing the next trip.

I was referring to the benches in launch bay just outside the party area - atleast during my party, we had no problem sitting at them with our party drinks/plates and coming/going from the party from those benches..we stood at a table inside for a bit but they are high tables and my daughter wasn't tall enough to eat at them...
