Two More 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' Films Coming After 'On Stranger Tides'?
by Terri Schwartz in Commentary, News

Someone at Disney better be out buying a whole lot of rum, because we're going to be getting a lot of Captain Jack Sparrow in the near future.

The fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, "On Stranger Tides," has finally wrapped principle photography, and Disney must have really liked what they saw — because according to HitFix, we're going to be getting two more "Pirates" films after "On Stranger Tides" hits theaters in 2011.

Just like "Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End" were shot back-to-back as the second and third "Pirates" movies, these next two installments will be filmed back-to-back whenever Disney can get its stars free, presumably at some point in 2011 after Johnny Depp is done filming "The Lone Ranger." Without official studio confirmation, it's safest to take this latest news as a rumor for now — but it's one heck of a rumor, to say the least.

Personally, I just hope that Disney plans these two films a bit better than they did with "Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End." HitFix recalls talking to director Gore Verbinkski when he was working on "At World's End," saying that they had "never seen someone who looked more tired." Maybe Rob Marshall will be more capable of rounding out the trilogy in one fell swoop without falling into an exhausted heap (I sure wouldn't be able to).

But I also sincerely hope that they kick the story up a few notches for "Pirates 5," and even "Pirates 6." I stand firm when I say that "Dead Man's Chest" was the biggest waste of 2.5 hours I ever spent in a theater, because nothing relating to the plot of that series happened until the last five minutes. Some of you might have enjoyed watching Captain Jack Sparrow frolic around with cannibals for nothing more than comedic relief, but I was not one of them.

"Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End" did make bucketloads of money, though, so it's no surprise that Disney felt that rounding out this second trilogy was a necessity. As long as they create a plot that makes these next two films have a purpose in the franchise and aren't clearly just tacked on to make more money, I think we can all agree that more "Pirates" can only be a good thing.

Are you glad Disney is making two more "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies?

I love me some Pirates.
I love me some JD.

But, for the love of everything Cheesus, I wish they'd stop at 4. I honestly wished they would have stopped at 3, but it's too late for that.

Even the Rocky series started to suck after 4. ;)

I love the Pirate Movies and look forward to all of them.

I agree. I love these movies but for the integrity of it I wish they weren't making a 4th or even more. I am for the idea that you make a movie because you have great ideas. Not that you make a movie just for the sake of making it and making money. I am also sad that the story line of Will and Elizabeth is over. Having said that, I really hope Pirates 4 is good.

I think you mean WITH 4.... 4 and 5 are some of the worst movies ever...

The 6th one was actually fairly good... Probably 3rd best int he series after 1 and 3.

Making money and a good film don't have to be mutually exclusive... Look at the Godfather 2, LOTR, The first Star Wars Trilogy and of Course one of the best for all films... Toy Story.

If its done will then it will be fantastic... Frankly I was sick of Knightly by the end of the trilogy, constantly hoping that an errant cannon ball would spare us from terrible over acting in the last two films. So I'm glad that she's gone and the two best characters Sparrow and Barbosa will be back.

:lmao:I love 4. "If he dies, he dies".

I have really liked Depp in all the Pirate movies. I hope they make all of these and I will and go to see them all!

Seriously? They've beaten the Pirates theme to death already what on Earth else can they do with it??

This reminds me of the Saw franchise. The first three movies were thrilling and chilling, but the most recent four have been awful. The newest movie, which was released over Halloween weekend, was horrible. I think it was in theaters for a few weeks until it was finally pulled.

Hopefully that's not what happens to the Pirates series, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The first Pirates was an incredible movie--fun and exciting. The second was one of my most disappointing movie experiences--it was mind-boggling how bad they messed that one up. I was prepared for the third, and it wasn't as lame as the second so it didn't disappoint too much.

I'm all for a fun and entertaining movie. They can't possibly make a movie as bad as the second one, so I look forward to #4.

Pirates # 1 is one of my favorite movies, two was disappointing and three was terrible, but I muddled through it because of Jack Sparrow. He is a great character.

That being said, I have cautious high hopes for four. I like the idea of the story and I think with some fresh characters it will give the franchise some new blood. I don't know what to think about 5th and 6th movie, but I do think a prequel might be fun to see how Jack became Captain Jack.

Sigh. Once again it appears that Disney is going to take a good thing and just run it into the ground through over-exposure. Do we really need another Pirates? pirate:
