Pirate rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort questions

One week ago, we returned from our sixth stay at the CBR. Loved everything about it just as we did our previous trips. We thought that we were ready for a change though and considered staying at another moderate resort. However, none of them really appeal to us.

So, to change things up but still stay at the CBR, we're thinking of booking a pirate room. I already know that they are in Trinidad South which is the furthest village from Old Port Royale and we don't mind walking so we're fine with that.

I have read conflicting reports about the beds being uncomfortable. Most of the reports I read were older posts though. For any of you who have stayed in a pirate room recently, how were the beds?

From the pictures that I have seen, the rooms seem a bit dark. Is this the case? Anyone have pics they'd like to share?

And, last but not least, how busy does the village seem during the day? We like to spend a couple of "down days" at the resort where we swim in the quiet pool, lounge around on the beach or sit in the courtyard. Since the village is geared towards families with children, is it busier than the other villages?

Thanks in advance!

We will be staying in a pirate room this weekend, I can let you know next week when we will be back. I know by the pics the rooms look dark but Im hoping it only b/c the dark brown curtain is drawn shut for all the pics since its got the skull pirate on it..

This will be our first CBR, we booked it last min just for the pirate rooms for a 10 yr first trip ever!

We leave tomorrow for a week in a Pirate room. We have 4 and 6 year old pirate lovers. pirate:

Please do let me know. I'd love to hear your experience. I think you'll love the CBR itself. The resort is so pretty and laid back.

We love the CBR! We stayed in a pirate room last August. pirate: My boys (3&5) loved it. However, I found the the beds small and the room was dark. Another downside was we were as far away as possible from the food court & pool - that was not fun! I would say for kids sake you should do it at least once! Sorry, I don't mean to be a "debbie downer". Have a great trip.

We stayed in the pirate rooms 2 years ago. My teenage daughters LOVED it, lol! Yes, you are farthest from the food court and the main pool but my girls much preferred the small pool next to our building. We never swam in the big main pool. It was fabulous!

Were the beds smaller than the full size beds in the standard CBR rooms? I know that they are in the furthest village away from the food court but we are used to walking and our son is older so it wouldn't matter.

I'm so glad to hear you say that your teenagers like it because my son is 14. We like the quiet pools on crowded days too.

I have pics of my teenage girls "sailing" the pirate beds, lol! Some of my favorite pics from that trip. Have a good time!

We stayed last Jan. I don't think the beds were samller than any other fulls, I just think most people sleep on King or Queen mattresses at home so it is tighter to sleep, but they were comfortable. My 2 kids were 7 and 3 at the time and they had issues sharing the bed and when I would wake up they regularly had arms in each other's faces. That is one of the reasons we are staying at WL next time so they can each have their own bunkbeds.:lmao:

The rooms were darker than our previous rooms at POFQ, but not so that it made it seem drab-just kept with the theme. It was a cute theme for our kids, but I think it would depend on the "older" child if they liked them or not.

The walk to the food court was not too bad-and I had a 7yo and pushed a stroller and it was fine. We went in Jan. and had a day where we just hung out in hammocks and swam (in Jan. there was not too much time to swim:laughing:). CBR itself felt very "resorty" and I enjoyed the themeing all around.

we are going in Sept and have a Pirate room!! Im very excited! Its our first time at CBR and I think my boys (7 and 3) will love the theme of the room!! our room is a "standard view" though.. does anyone know what that means we will prob have a view of.. will it be like gardens or a parking lot lol

I don't think the beds are any smaller than a normal Full sized bed.

The mattress is VERY thin though. Some have called it a thick mattress pad. I can't go that far. But it's thin, on top of the boxspring. I found it comfortable, as did hubby and son, though.

Our room was on the dark side but that's b/c we don't really open our blinds in a hotel room. Our room looked out on a very pretty, small, courtyard and people were there often, and we just don't like people looking in. Sadly, the courtyard was the smoking area, which was a problem for me...sigh.

But when the air was clear, it made for fun nature-looks (like a nature walk but without the walking LOL) for DS, checking out the flowers and trees and seed pods and whatnot.

We found the walk to be fine to the foodcourt, BUT it was early December just before the freezing cold hit, so the weather was pleasant.

Thank you all for your opinions. We are still pondering the thought of a pirate room. We've also talked about booking a standard view like we have done in the past and using the extra money to add the water park and more option to our tickets.

I stayed in a pirate room in 2009 and to be honest, I really don't think the theme was worth the extra money. We got a 50% discount because my friend was a cast member so we didn't actually pay MORE to stay there, so I can't be TOO upset about it. But for the amount of time we spent in the park verse the room, I don't think it was worth it. We could have stayed at AKL for about $100 more each and at least that would have been a deluxe hotel.

The bed I found to be OK. I have a very comfortable bed at home so almost all hotel beds are sub par to me. I could stay at the GF and Pop in the same trip and think both beds are awful. That being said it is not the worst hotel bed I have ever slept in.

I will be there in 1 month - I have 2 19 year olds they wanted to stay in the pirate room - my question is - is there enough room for a twin blow up bed somewhere in the room? - that way each person (there are 3 of us) will have their own bed.

Was there room for the blow up mattress?
